Re: Windows 10 downloading
I think this might be the browser related issue or should I say browser security related issue. When I go and download the EXE file for demo version (both 32 bit and 64 bit) on Windows 7 with IE 11 I get a warning that the publisher of the file can not be verified and therefore the file might be har...

Re: Cannot download scenario pack
Scenario pack download is not available in regular download section. I remember it was available from profile page on Factorio site (for those having the proper tier) but it seems that the download link for it has been removed from there. Now you say that you can't use auto-updater as you computer i...

Re: Understanding Factorio Performance
I'm not sure where your information comes from... but from what I've read all simulation needs to be constrained to single game loop - not sure if this includes pathfinder. Other thing is that I haven't seen game exceed 12-13% cpu usage listed which means it can saturate one core but not more. Yes ...

Re: Understanding Factorio Performance
I think that Fish mainly meant that you get two main threads - game loop and potentially render thread. So your performance is still limited by performance of single core (thats why I have i7-4790K CPU :D ). More threads can be used for stuff like sound/music but they don't actually do a lot of wor...

Re: [0.12.0] FPS/UPS Capping at 40 periodically - dual screen
Adjusting game speed *shouldn't* effect anything other than the actual speed the game runs at. If it does please report it as it would be a bug. It shouldn't I know. But I warned about this because there have been some bugs reported and fixed in the past so that people would pay more attention in t...

Re: Understanding Factorio Performance
Multithreading doesn't mean multiple cores are used. True. The OS can still decide that all of those threads are processed with only one core but this is uncommon. Sure you can develop your application to request the OS to run specific thread on specific core but with newer versions of Windows this...

Re: Understanding Factorio Performance
one more think to note is that factorio eats VRAM a lot because the way is runs (window mode) you OS have 1-2GB VRAM and game at star 1/2 - 1 GB VRAM and all the items you put on the map eat some more. this is the same as DaveMcW sed the think to note is that the CPU or VRAM are the bottleneck a sy...

Re: [0.12]The M-word
The problem with P2P multiplayer setup is that each client needs to send its information to every other client in multiplayer session. This means that one client with slow connection can cause slowdowns and lag for everyone. But the main advantage of P2P multiplayer is that the person who initially ...

Re: Resumable in-game update
As far as I know the update files are not served from the server as being static FTP files which means that resuming of their download or concurrent download of different parts of these files (approach that is used by many download accelerators) is not possible. Now developers could split update int...

Re: [Oxyd] 0.12 world deleted
What Factorio does is the following: It saves the map in a temporary location, then moves it from that temporary location into saves. That is terrible approach. Why? First the temporary location may not be on the same disk drive as the actual savegame should be. So you have no way of making sure th...

Re: [0.12.0] FPS/UPS Capping at 40 periodically - dual screen
This may be related to issue with V-sync. Try to execute following command in in-game console and let us know if you then get steady 60/60 /c game.speed = 1.0001 Does anyone have an idea what this actually changes? It also fixes stuttering for me. This command is generally used to change the game s...

Re: [0.12.0][Twinsen] Window Sizing issue
@Twinsen You have marked this as duplicate. But are you sure it is duplicate? We don't know what was UI scale did plaidwalker had before. If it was set to more than 1.0 then this is indeed duplicate. But if it was set to 1.0 it is possible that Windows 8.1 didn't recognize Factorio as HD ready appli...

I don't know how savegame mechanism is implemented in factorio but as a hobby game developer myself I would suggest something like this. 1. Once the savegame process begins make copy of the old savegame. Now when I say make copy I don't mean go create a new file and copy contents of old savegame int...

Re: [12.0][Twinsen]UI scaling to 200% & unable to set it back
How hard would it be to implement to automatically scale the ingame UI while dragging the UI scale trackbar? This would allow users to chose their desired UI scale much easier and probably also prevent them from chosing unsuitable UI scale. Right now you need to click back for the Ui scale to update...

Re: [0.12.0][slpwnd] Actions during save strangeness
Let me guess. Multiplayer uses same savegame routine that is used for autosave. Now for multiplayer I guess this information is required (new player gets full savegame of the current world). So as a programmer myself I see two possible solution for this: 1. Having two separate routines. Possible dra...

Re: [12.0] UI scaling to 200% & unable to set it back to normal
I agree with FishSandwich solution as it is quote commonly used in many games and even in the Windows itself. As for repairing of you having to big UI now I suggest you either go and edit the "config.ini" file or simply delete it and the game will load default settings. The lines in the fi...

Re: Can't install 1.2 from experimental
The reason why installer failed is because installer file got damaged during download. Also bare in mind that most browsers nowadays reserve HDD space for file that is being downloaded. Therefore the file size is the file size reported by the server even thou only a few megs have been downloaded alr...

Are you sure your electric miner does not have its output blocked? Miner will stop if there is already another item on the ground where its output is.

Re: Just where was I manufacturing that ....
Why not simply add the ability to name roboports? I mean when you are still using belts for hauling most of your items you can quickly find out where certain thing is manufactured by simply following the belt to its origin. But with roboports this becomes impossible. And since the roboports are usua...

Re: Should ores show above concrete?
I guess this is implemented in a way that concrete simply replaces the default ground surface texture and not adds another layer. The reason for such implementation would probably be the fact that adding another layer for concrete would affect the game performance. So in order for developers to make...
