Re: Loading nuclear reactors
I think a combination of suggestions is in order. If I am not mistaken, accumulators now report charge. You could wire accumulators to an inserter at your Nukes that does something like... 1)Stack size override =1 2)counts input fuel vs output spent to only ever insert 1 if accum % is less than som...

Re: Loading nuclear reactors
@OP There is a simple 1-combinator [per reactor core] solution to only load 1 fuel at a time: the Memory cell. Here is the setup I'm using: One core is powered constantly [only 1 fuel cell at a time], the second core is only powered up if the 500 degree steam tanks drop below threshold level, for be...

Re: The only mod I need now is...
Only mod I consider mandatory is Personal Equipment hotkeys. No more removing roboports from armour / swapping to robo-free suit to plan stuff out with ghosts. One button press! No more overshooting when working near express belts ~ toggle the exo legs off temporarily. One button press! Why this sim...

Re: Roboport repair pack inventory
... Another option, again with a local bot network, would be to set a requester chest with an inserter at each roboport for something like 5 repair packs. You could add a wire here to prevent placing packs in a specific port if that one port had x packs already. ... Tried it, does not work. :( Test...

Re: Nuclear power with steam storage tanks
I was similarly inspired by that thread, and by your clever pump control switching idea, Medu. Here is the [somewhat unconventional] bullpup-style result, 8x64[ish] tiles per 10-4-10 block. Nuclear Power.png Should scale up / tile well: for a 2x2 reactor setup it would be 96 tiles wide [6 pairs of r...

Questions about .15 water / new boilers / engines
Originally asked in the FFF thread, but I think it got buried pretty fast amid all the hype: The steam comes out of the heat exchangers at 500 degrees, which is the maximum a steam turbine can utilize. A steam engine in comparison can only make use of steam up to 165 degrees - which is what a normal...

Re: Friday Facts #187 - Space science & 0.15 graphics
The steam comes out of the heat exchangers at 500 degrees, which is the maximum a steam turbine can utilize. A steam engine in comparison can only make use of steam up to 165 degrees - which is what a normal boiler produces. So if you use a steam turbine with normal boiler, it will work, but the tu...

Re: how do YOU manage barrels of oil?
Filtering slots is redundant if you use the 2-wagon design I posted, otherwise your method is very similar to mine. I even pre-load the oil outposts with a trainload of barrels so that they will be busy filling barrels even when the train is away, delivering its goods to my unload station. Indeed s...

Re: Red-green cable connector
Or just have a single arithmetic combinator set to "each - 0, output each", with the red wire connected to its input and the green from its output. All data channels will be passed through it unchanged, with a 1 tick delay. To split off a single data channel [eg: X], you could use a singl...

Re: how do YOU manage barrels of oil?
I use a very simple but 100% effective method to prevent the system ever getting clogged up: Oil trains never leave a station without a full complement of barrels, either all empties OR all filled. Filler station.png Train arrives with 200 empties, then remains in the station until it has zero empti...

30x24+ fast binary display & easy programmable memory.
Built & coded entirely from scratch in vanilla Factorio, no "blueprint import & copy settings" BS. Long post with piccies, so have made liberal use of the spoiler tag. 30x24+ binary display.png Features: + Fast update speed ~ only 2 ticks delay. + Very easy to program the memory. +...

Re: Active Provider Chests?
I find active providers very useful for a variety of situations: Train unloading depot [had to start with most obvious]. Moving partial repair packs from roboports back into the logistics network. Automatic Shop [see below]. Wherever there is a big distance from item producer to typical consumer[s]....

Re: Friday Facts #168 - Nightvision Nightmare
Here's another test example. I reduced the greyscale to %80, and made the biters stand out a bit more: Normal Vision_2.png Night Vision_2.png It works really well with some of the other mechanics, like rail signal color, fire, headlights, and so on. Not all the images I edited turned out very good ...
