Faster loading without full automation: Put belts and inserters to these turrets, and a chest and inserter next to it. Fill the chest with 3/4 of your ammo (or whatever ratio) and let the machines do the rest! Fastest option: Get laser turrets! Sure belts, chests and inserters are faster for later ...

I quite often find myself building 3 gun turrets in a bunker. Then to fill them with magazines I give half of my inventory to the first, half of the remainder to the second and the rest to the third.
