Re: Version 0.17.60
Anecdotical evidence: On sunday I was adapting my factory to the changes of 17.60 and was confronted with a backed-up oil production because of HO. The thing is: I needed 5 minutes to recognize the problem even though I looked into plants and refineries. But I had to look at that yellow background c...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
..., the pickaxe,... were all puzzles and gates that made the game what it was ... As soon as I see pickaxe mentioned I really have a hard time taking an argument serious anymore. The pickaxe itself as an item can not be called a puzzle or gate to anything. One might argue that mining by hand is to...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Great idea.
Reminds me a little of the first RTS, Dune, where automatic harvesters would have no problems wandering into enemy territory in their quest for resources. I see similar happen here (and I like it).

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
As much as I like the idea of early ground based bots, I shudder to think of the pathfinding calculations that would result. I wrote a mod, which is on the mod portal, that does path finding for various tasks with sheep, err, compilatrons. The unit API is actually very fast when used properly. Ther...

Re: Version 0.17.60
... ( assuming there is one in the first place). ... + Are you sure steam sales boost factorio sells ? what about the % that is bought on website ?on Gog ? those little % don't count i guess right ? 80% of 80% of 80% is only +/- 50% . As I clearly said, I'm not sure. I would need to be Wube employe...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
I figured both sides should be represented equally in the "useless arguments" category. No really TBH I was just sick of the complaining and had to complain myself. I lurked for weeks watching people freaking out and I reached my limit. Never fear I'll go back to silent mode now that I've...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Ok, it hurts both sides, but that still doesn’t diminish the point I’m trying to make. I’m only discussing it from the first person’s side. They’re still hurt, regardless of the warning given before, and it’s stupid and wrong to say they don’t have a right to feel hurt because they were warned befo...

Re: Version 0.17.60
If you don't want to understand the general ideas, i can explain why each point is questionnable. The age means something as such: If younger player i average finish the game faster, and suddenly one youtuber whose public is mostly that age launches rocket. Does the trend in come in from the new up...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Well, money aside, I kind of feel like all these posts saying “it’s EA, it should be expected” are being said as if we don’t have a right to be upset or hurt over the changes. I just feel like it’s like saying if someone was to go on a date with another person, but before that first date they were ...

Re: Version 0.17.60
I do not contest the general usefulness of statistics, but i would like to highlight some stuff that in this context makes some of the applications you propose difficult. The approach from general statistic is providing different information than if you have the equivalent of cookie that would give...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Because it is entirely possible that no further version ever gets released. That's obviously not what happened here. And, by staying on an older version, you also lose access to new/updated mods. Equally obviously I said that for the general case of EA. To show that steam tells you to keep your exp...

Re: Version 0.17.60
The 0% is unreal, but how would you know ? you can't, that's my point. "on average new player launch rocket after 3 month" , (just imagine i'm not saying it's a fact, it's just show how much data is missing for initial assumption to be correct) "During winter this time is /2", &...

Re: Version 0.17.60
Yes because people that does the poll are professionnals and use properly the statistics. ( and even sometimes they get it wrong because they start with wrong assumptions that they admit after fact did biaised their judgment) What you do would be the opposite of your example, you have the % of vote...

Re: Version 0.17.60
If they have access to these, then yes, you are absolutely correct. But we don't know if they do or not. Yes. I can say I know for a fact that developers get a lot more statistic information than the general public. I heard a developer praising steam for their statistical information. The rest is c...

Re: Version 0.17.60
means 456 players in Apri 2019 got the rocket achievement when approximately 1000 new players per month tried the game. So approximately 45,6% of new players have reached the rocket achievement. Not sure about that one. This could means many older player got to launch their first rocket unmodded, a...

Re: Version 0.17.60
Sorry but that is were you are wrong. The advanced players even if they enabled mods at some point for whatever reason during their progression never drop out of the total statistics. ... That said what you can do though and what BlueTemplar wrote about and what I think he meant is the change from ...

Re: Version 0.17.60
What you are saying is to make note of this percentage, wait a month, then look at the new stat? This is still comparing to all history. No. Wube surely gets absolute number of players at any time (developers have access to a lot more statistics, details and exact numbers, not a simple rounded perc...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
It's EA fore a reason. While I get this, I'm also still a bit conflicted. I paid into EA to support this game because I liked what I saw and the direction it was going at that time. In 0.17, there have been shifts away from that. If it shifts far enough away, can I withdraw my support? Buy only rel...

Re: Version 0.17.60
Many players I know keep pointing to Steam achievements as the metric to show how hard oil is, and I believe you all have mentioned it once or twice. What occurred to me, though, is this: the people who have probably given the game a try and then quit are very likely not to retry after an update, o...

Re: Version 0.17.60
The problem is now more about the measurement of success. At the moment we all have just opinions about what the change will accomplish. Facts will be available only after some time and a statistically relevant number of new users had a chance to play it. But will Wube remember to check the numbers...
