Re: Price change
One also shouldn't underestimate the "long tail". A game that stays relevant (for example with mods and small updates, graphics refresh...) for a long time generates a constant stream of income that helps fund a game company. This is why Bethesda (who really isn't into giving out presents)...

Re: Price change
There are a lot of ideas of massive added value for Factorio in updated versions. Further worlds in which users may find themselves under water or on other planets without oxygen e.g. the possibilities are endless. Yeah, and by making an extension or a Factorio 2.0 there are completely acceptable s...

Re: Friday Facts #236 - Building a rollup
Ooops, right, there already is a demo! Forgot that completely. So I'll adjust my advise: Advertise the fact that it was the best-rated game on steam for x months and at game fairs distribute CDs (or usb-sticks) with the demo game to anyone who looks interested

Re: Friday Facts #236 - Building a rollup
I think it would be impossible to entice me with a picture. Only hands-on game play could ever convince me. Actually what convinced me to try out Factorio was that it was the game with the best user rating on steam and I just wanted to find out if that rating was deserved. I got actually hooked only...

I own windows 10 and factorio, I hate it that windows 10 has mandatory tracking, because I don't trust microsoft. It's not mandatory, you just didn't bother to look into your available options to turn it off. Options have always existed to disable telemetry since WinXP and haven't gotten any harder...

2) Trains are always good. So...maybe a "rob the train" scenario where a really slow but heavily defended train drives through the map and you have to stop it in time? Or you have to safe a reactor before it goes critical? I.e. some "not open ended" scenarios that provide a more...

Re: Friday Facts #227 - Rendering, Trees & Scenario talk
Also keep in mind that Bethesda took Notch to court for writing a game named "Scrolls", because it contained part of their trade name "the Elder Scrolls". I don't remember the results. That was a trademark case. Trademark is a bit like copyright but it works even with single wor...

Legal note: I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, so please let me know if that sounds completely stupid. I'm no laywer, so don't take my words for the absolut truth. But I'm quite sure even with the legal system that a better lawyer makes you more right a copyright infringment between ...

Re: Friday Facts #225 - Bots versus belts (part 2)
We got one FFF hinting they wished they hadn't made bots so strong, quite different from nerfing, the second FFF was focused more on buffing belts than nerfing bots. They even went through examples on how they had considered doing this. The second FFF literally said in the conclusion that they thin...

Re: Friday Facts #225 - Bots versus belts (part 2)
Why are you rushing to 1.0 so much anyway? There is so much that could still be added to the game, but proposed bot nerf is like cutting corners in hardcore mode. Probably Factorio is a game where the conrete has dryed on 99% of the game and all they can do is add less and less useful stuff, optimi...

(Do you realize we are actually saying the exact same thing, but differently? I’m just hoping people will actually begin seeing this at some point.) Ah, not really. You said balancing doesn't matter at all because it doesn't matter to you ("But in a non-competitive game balancing really *doesn...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
Why is everyone trying to remove a part of the game that they do not use? Nobody is. People here are discussing options and ideas, nobody (except a presumend troll that never explained himself) spoke up, after I literally asked: "Does anyone here really WANT logistics bots removed". Don't...

You literally said "rules and constraints of the game" about a sandbox game. Which is like saying "We need violence in kid's games". Even sandbox games have rules and constraints. For example: An assembly machine doesn't work without energy and source materials. An assembler and...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
As has been pointed out before, the “buff the belts” argument is to ensure that the mega base stays viable. If you don’t buff the belts so they can maintain a mega base AND you nerf the logi bot to the point where they can no longer sustain a mega base, well then ... He talks about "nerfing th...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
The thing is : If half the players want to keep (or even buff) the logistic bots, and half of them want to get rid of (or violently debuff) them, which half should the devs upset (if they were really considering to do something, even radical, for good) ? :) I don't think it is this way. I haven't s...

TBH if someone comes and open a topic with the name "whatever" vs "whatever" he/should be warned cuz of possible community split. On the other hand one could see what you are doing as blaming the victim. It's like: Look the bad jew said something now there is the list everyone c...

Re: Friday Facts #224 - Bots versus belts
So why not introduce some way to manage them. Maybe managing priorities and limiting them to routes. While belts are managed on the physical level (where you place them and in which direction) logistic bots are more on a logical level (where to get stuff from and where to put it). And all that is (...
