They only set the volume at the beginning of the sound. Which was mostly fine but didn't work well for long sounds (just the siren in the base game)

I‘d rather liked the „sunrise“ animation from the old first step campaign. This would IMO like OP mentioned add a little nice (skippable) flavor to the beginning of the freeplay.
