Re: Jackie's Crazy Contraptions

The problem with all these balancers is that they don't work well when the inputs and outputs are imbalanced.

Re: Modular/smart furnace line

I would recommend using this setup from XKnight for filtering: https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=29444 However, you will need to add belt backup protection. I am planning to build a smart furnace with belts, too. But I want only one input belt that can switch material or contains a...

Re: Map generation - Only one map - Seed defines pos

Well it would still be deterministic if you had the seeded RNG influence the ore patch generation. Whichever global factors you use there can be extracted from the RNG. I see no reason in always having the same map.

Re: ½ lane splitter

The version from the link I posted does the same while using less parts:

Loaders are not enabled in vanilla Factorio so I wouldn't use them to balance lanes.. Or do you mean something different?

Re: Modular/smart furnace line

I can't really see how the belts are used.. Is the input belt always filled with one ore type per line or can it switch material depending on demand?

Can you share a blueprint or savegame please?

Re: ½ lane splitter

What exactly does backlog safe mean?
How is it different from the first one here (https://imgur.com/a/sgAsj) other than using more splitters?

Re: Nonblocking, expandable buffer

I have improved upon my last design and built a universally throughput unlimited 2 blue belt in-line buffer. Picture below. http://i.imgur.com/qef8iJM.jpg Key features °Only buffers excess items °Universally throughput unlimited (it never ever stalls or fails to fully compress the output as long as ...

Re: Balanced buffer

@doxsros I'm planning to build a similar setup where each station can unload a mix of ores. My solution is as follows: Use 2 blue belts per train station with minimal buffers. If you need more unloading capacity, build more stations. Each train needs 2 wagons and 2 stack inserters per wagon per side...

Re: Friday facts #158 - The end of the 32 bit era

@bobingabout This is a little OT. You're having a wrong understanding of things. x86 processors today can handle arithmetic with numbers larger than 64bit, specifically 128bit with AVX instruction set extensions and 256bit with AVX2. Then there's also AVX512. The 64-bit thingy is mostly about the CP...

Re: Nonblocking, expandable buffer

This mod makes testing a lot easier. I've designed a compact inline buffer for blue belts a couple of days ago and wanted to add control to it like you did. It should be in-line to save space. Here is the basic version: https://s9.postimg.org/yqwiuewsv/inline_buffer_2_blue_belt.png It is supposed to...

Re: Smart Splitter (The Real One)

So with the lately found priority splitters (in Show your Creations/Combinators) I think the whole balancing stuff from above is useless. All the splitter needs is a "priority" and I think to both sides, the input- and output-side. Just a switch "left/even/right" (even is defaul...

Re: Smart Splitter (-Suggestions will never End)

@Koub What a great suggestion to not mix items.. What if I want to build a factory that relies on belt-mixing techniques? I can think of plenty of situations where belt-mixing would be extremely useful. There are ways to manage it with existing game mechanics, but it is very tricky and doesn't work ...

Well maybe you can just release your CPU blueprint? I'd like to have a look at it.
