Burner inserters that never run out of energy?
Hi, I'm looking for a mod so that burner inserters will never pick up an item if they don't have enough energy left to deliver said item and pick up some fuel after that., if it is possible to mod. Meaning that when the inserter is low on fuel it won't pick up some iron ore, get half way to the furn...

Re: Multi-purpose (smart) logistic chest
I really recommend studying the article-link I posted before continuing discussion, cause there are many other ideas that needs to be know before discussing this. The linked article seem to be all about filtering the chest contents. That is not what I'm talking about. I'm talking only about the fil...

Re: Multi-purpose (smart) logistic chest
This is similar to the cache type chest I've been asking for on a regular basis. The current structure for chests doesn't allow supply and provide in the same chest without the bots 'shorting out' like they do if your autotrash is set lower than your request. Of course the real fix for that might b...

Re: Unindendet behaviour for inserters with blueprinting
Or we could fix the inserters in such a way that things can be automated more. Think of a giant blueprint for an outpost where you only build a starting seed and it builds the materials to complete the blueprint locally. Feel free to make a development suggestion for that. Well, I considered it a b...

Multi-purpose (smart) logistic chest
Often I want to balance items across a large logistics network. Create local caches of items for faster delivery for example. Problem is that when I place a storage chest somewhere on one side the destruction robots will fill it from way across the other side, crossing enemy territory and get shot d...

Re: Unindendet behaviour for inserters with blueprinting
That creates the problem of burner inserters picking up non-fuel before fuel when the belts get connected and then they get stuck without energy. Then it would be a good idea to not connect the non fuel belts first... Or we could fix the inserters in such a way that things can be automated more. Th...

Re: Friday Facts #161 - Infinite Research and Blueprint Library
That works if you're building stuff in your main factory, not so much when you're building an outpost. First thing you build is the train station, unload into provider chests and place a roboport. You can carry that much in the inventory. How about having a train that picks up all kinds of building...

Re: Why is this train being stupid?
You have to show a bit more. It's hard to make out but which signals are connected to the wires and how are they programmed?
From the picture it looks like the train has a green light right to the station. Why isn't it taking that path?

Re: Friday Facts #161 - Infinite Research and Blueprint Library
Personal robo-ports with more robot slots, bigger area, more efficient recharge. The limits I run in to in large factories are: - not enough logistics slots to maintian an inventory - not enough inventory slots to hold all the things I want/need - logistics robot system is too slow over a large are...

Re: Why is this train being stupid?
Have to try this with and without the extra station. If the signal is enough to recompute the way this could be fun.
Challenge: Design a minimal train network where the signals are such that the train always finds a path but never reaches its goal.

Re: Has anyone computed the throughput of trains?
Yes, the time between trains is actually my problem. At the moment I have 6 stack inserters unloading into chests and 6 stack inserters further putting that on red belts that get merged into one. 4 stack inserters are just below the belt capacity so with 6 items back up a bit. But the chests run em...

Re: Has anyone computed the throughput of trains?
The theoretical maximum 'bandwidth' of a track is also easy to compute, namely wagon capacity / time for a wagon to cross a section of track. A train seems to go 66 tiles per second, so it takes 1/11 seconds for the full wagon to cross a point. So, maxium theoretical throughput of a train is 550 st...

Re: Hidden ores
This talk about hidden or infinite ores made me think. In RL people first found coal, iron and copper on the surface. Then they started to dig big pits to mine it and later underground mines. Wouldn't it make sense to start with the simple burner mining drills just scrapping the surface and exhausti...

Re: Why is this train being stupid?
try putting a station before the unload stations (left of blue square) with a wait time of 0 seconds. trains should recalculate after the 0 second stop. I have used this technique in my previous game but it seems that it only works to a degree. This is because the trains will leave from that statio...

Unindendet behaviour for inserters with blueprinting
I just love blueprints. But sometimes they cause unindendet behaviours with inserters when they are placed early. Specifically I have problems with 2 cases: 1) the inserter picks up anything from it's source tile and then can't deliver it and is stuck. I had burning inserters pick up copper while th...

Re: Hidden ores
Later in the game (advanced technologies would be needed for this), the player could start with underground mining, this would have 2 phases. Searching for resources Underground resources wouldn't be so easy to spot, the player would have to do special drills to scan the nearby underground, when he...

Re: Friday Facts #161 - Infinite Research and Blueprint Library
Here are some more ideas for infinite research (and maybe for some basic research too): - robot speed - robot carrying capacity - robot enery capacity (travel distance) -- Why is there no tech for this yet? - roboport logistics/construction range - roboport recharge capacity / rate - train/car/tank ...

Re: Has anyone computed the throughput of trains?
The practical upper bound for train throughput is actually the 12 inserters/wagon throughput at the unloading station(s), this is because, under theoretically optimal conditions, you would have you unloading station 'saturated' and thus always unloading trains...realistically, there is going to be ...

Has anyone computed the throughput of trains?
It's easy to see the maximum throughput of an inserter or a belt and if you are filling it Harder to do with trains. Has anyone calculated or measured the maximum throughput of trains considering all the factors involved? Off the top of my head I would thing the following a factors: 1) type of inser...
