Connecting wires to tracks-some possible options

Expanding on some ideas about connecting rails from https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=28483 and https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=29978 Tracks connected together by wire, instead of acting like separate circuit entities, could act like one big circuit entity cover...

Re: Nuclear Power from a Nuclear Engineer

To that end, though, it is usually doing something like venting steam at the exchanger, so water use per unit energy wouldn't really decrease, just the power output, which could be a fun enough mechanic I guess. Which side of the exchanger? We could use the pump to simulate this if it's on the powe...

Re: Nuclear Power from a Nuclear Engineer

On the subject of nuclear waste: What if, if a box of nuclear waste gets shotgunned, it releases tons of radioactive fallout? It'd act like pollution, except it also damages players and biters in it based on concentration. Probably needs a carrot to go with the stick, but it does make the problem mo...

Re: Nuclear Power from a Nuclear Engineer

No need to poison the player to death. Picking up a hazardous item can just cause an injury effect and have the attempt fail. That means only containers and bots can handle the material. Keeping it out of player hands means another puzzle to solve. I think the poisoning would work better for gamepl...

Re: Nuclear Power from a Nuclear Engineer

So here is my question what reward do you provide (apart from "achievment" "my nuclear plant works") in your system of "stressing" power plants if they are not reliable power sources and you NEED solar panels as an additional source (and it needs to give even more powe...

Re: Nuclear Power from a Nuclear Engineer

I dunno if generic stress would be a good idea. It's simple, but not intuitive-"Why did my reactor just scram? 'Stress'? what the heck is this 'stress', and what causes it?" Whereas the water getting too hot and the reactor overheating? "Why did my reactor just scram? 'Overheated?' Hu...

Re: Automated Vehicle Lifter/Carrier

This would be nice if combined with an RTS setup.

Can we also use it to carry items?

Re: Nuclear Power from a Nuclear Engineer

The things that I feel *should* come with nuclear : - Nuclear waste management This. I think thorium fission still produces radioactive material-if nothing else the containers inside will need replacement - Other uses for nuclear, namedly for weapons (no nuclear bomb, that'd be too powerful, but de...

Re: [0.14] Implement Nuclear Fusion Power

If I'm reading this correctly, you'll still need a fission plant for tritium production since a fusion plant won't produce enough tritium to sustain itself. So what, we need both fission plants and fusion plants? Fission plant for tritium then fusion for the real power. The fusion reactors we have ...

Re: [0.14] Implement Nuclear Fusion Power

For tritium: The usual production method is neutron activation of lithium. This, unlike most nuclear reactions we use, doesn't require the neutron to be of any particular energy. Usually this is done in a fission reactor, with a lithium jacket around the reactor core to capture stray neutrons. Deute...

Re: Friday facts #151 - The plans for 0.14

For dirty ores: Will the 'dirt' be outputted as an item we'll have to manage, or is it assumed to just disappear? In particular, it'd be a nice mechanic to have refining uranium ore output, say, 9 pieces of fertile material (U-238) for 1 piece of fissionable material (U-235). The fissionable materia...

Re: Circuit network features for 0.14

In 0.12 there was a mod called something like "smart trains". In this mode, you could add a smart train stop. The smart train stop can read cargo contents and it was possible to tell a train to go to a station depending on the signal. Aware of that mod, never used. Thought it didn't have ...

Re: Circuit network features for 0.14

Would like the ability to specify which station to go to.

Especially if it can be a GOTO command on the Wait Until menu.

And also the ability to copy/paste train settings.

If pumps/pipes can output fluid flow/pressure/temperature, it could help control nuclear reactors.
