I think that early stage is so short it is not worth programming, but it is just my opinion :)
I for example never mined by hand more than maybe 100 items and there is a lot of sources under one cell

No. You fill it with full capacity and switching to lower stack sizes when you come near to the filling limits. So first it fills as fast as possible and short before you reach the limit you switch the stack limit to 1 and fill in the remaining items carefully one by one. BTW/Off-Topic: For that yo...

I can think a number of things that could be done with that and I think when you reduce the number to 1 while filling a train it solves also the problem with the one item left. Using 1 capacity filling could last really long. If you implement signal based inserter's capticity it could be done faste...

How much do you mine and needs to change mining target?
I always run for drills to do everything without me working, so I don't need such features and I believe many others too.
It would be useful, but there are more important things and this wouldn't be used often I guess.

Like that it can work too I think, but not so nicely (can block inserter if for example creating iron plates ends). But I don't see any builds that wouldn't be possible compared to current version. Current version allows only picking max inserter's capcity anyway, so maybe max what had to be changed...

This one could be pretty hard to do anyway. I mean you would have problems with loading the train anyway (as you don't know how many free slots wagon have). Also if it is connected to the train then all wagons would count in. It would be problematic to create system that works for any number of wag...

Could be both, because both functions got different use cases. Tagging is better than content reading in identifying, because it will identify the train even with emptied wagons. And it could be both, because reading content from wagon's inventory will not affect train's tag signal which is not item...

It would even work with regular filter inserters... and each filter signal specifies its own amount of holding items.
