Re: Supporting multiple Factorio (Major) versions
What the Frick.
If you're going to disagree with people, at least do it in a respectful manner.
And please understand that different developers work in different ways. Just because this works for you, doesn't mean you should undermine that others may be of a different opinion.
What I and ...

Re: Supporting multiple Factorio (Major) versions
I totally understand wanting to be explicit in supported versions, but can we explicitly support multiple?
Eg.
Code: Select all
"factorio_versions": ["0.17", "0.18"]

Allow a single mod version to support multiple factorio versions
Perhaps this has been discussed in the past, and I was unable to find it. If that's the case, my bad.
I'd like to see my mod be able to support multiple factorio versions out of the box, by making the "factorio_version" variable in the info.json a list.

0.18 not listen as major version
Hey peeps!
I would fix this myself, but I haven’t created myself an account yet.
On the page: https://wiki.factorio.com/Version_history, 0.18 is listed as a minor version of 0.17, rather than its own major version.

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
What happens when people realise 1 belt split between coal and iron isn't enough? That electric furnaces are larger than coal ones? That you actually need a lot more science production than you walled yourself into fitting?
I would argue all these situations are at the core of the gameplay of ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes
Something else that I've not really seen anyone mention...
you're making all these changes so that people can more easily get into oil, to get chem science packs.
what happens when they do eventually research advanced oil processing, then realise they're going to have to completely redesign ...

Re: Version 0.17.0
The quick bar takes a little bit of playing to get used to. There's so much muscle memory so far that makes me go "wtf where are my it-- oh in the inventory".
But I do really like the approach, and I'm sure I will get used to it in a few more hours of playtime.
Thank you to the whole dev-team, for ...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch
I read the friday facts 1 minute after publishing, and there was a clear statement: feb 25 / not after or in this week, i think the guy who has written this is now a head shorter
It would be nice if someone can give a release date AND time for us - so we can setup server and prepare the community ...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch
Nope.
The most exact time to count down to would be “probably next week”, so I guess you could say in a couple of hours, depending on time zone?
Anything beyond that would be pure speculation.

Re: Train build
There are of course always tradeoffs to things.
I personally prefer the extra cost of a loco and fuel, for the simplicity I feel it adds to my rail network.
Instead of having to waste space with loops, I like to build my stations as the one in my drawing below.

What, not released today, but you promised last week. I even left work early to see the new 0.17 relase!
No we didn't. Where are you reading that?

I love the philosophy of making it better at the cost of the status quo.
I've been playing this game for a while now
And I still love it more with every update.

Just to clarify, when you say we can help play on Tuesday, will this be some closed server testing deal, or will it just be released publicly as a beta version?

Re: Smart Train Stops
Being able to manually control signals could work as well, not only for this, but other places where you might want more control over where / how the trains go.
You could for example have an extra siding for an idle train, and using the signals, you could deploy it to your line when demand is high ...

Detecting trains on the track
Hey there everyone!
I've decided to try my hands at modding, and wanted to make a railway crossing, which flashes it's lights when a train is approaching, so I don't die.
An obvious part of the process is detecting an inbound train, to do this, I've been trying to find out how the signals work ...

Haven't really had much time lately, and I found it a little pointless to try now that it will be much easier in the next version.
But good job.

Font?
Is there any way of getting the font used in the logo?
If it even fully exists, would be nice to use for numbers in my videos.
