Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Presuming not all of them are "unfit" to play factorio, what is the best solution to smooth the spike. As you and most users agreed before, not by simplifying blue science. So oil is the best next candidate to go. It is doubtful a more complex solution (early cracking) or just a UI change...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I may not agree 100% with all the changes, but, looking at it from vanilla perspective only, it makes about 95% on my sense meter. most of me disagreeing with the changes stem from "I'm used to the old version" and "I'll have to make changes to my mods." Heh. Yes. We developers ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

There's been big sweeping changes before all we all lived through them. At the end, to launch a rocket you still need to balance multiple oil outputs. This is what experimental patches are for, to explore concepts and see how they actually work in gameplay. While true, the current result of .60 is ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Also, there are still six fluid tanks and water inputs for the fluid to solid recipes. You have all the basic “complexity” of a “proper” multi-fluid setup. The tanks are just not in separate blocks. But the tanks are pointless, anyway. I wasn't going to say it because it's not important, but my rea...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

This is a simple Refining setup which has kept me fully stocked with Sulfur and Plastics - no mess, no fuss. Simply elegant. In fact I can see a scenario where I will only need a small refinery created to make lube and solid fuel at a later stage, with the petrolium being piped off to my strategic ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I’ve been considering two alternatives, one of which I have even implemented, but it does not work. ... I’ll give it some more thought and try to implement the second option, and see where I get stuck or find issues. I fully admit that I don’t remember my thoughts when I originally “solved” oil. So...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

what happens when they do eventually research advanced oil processing, then realise they're going to have to completely redesign their base, because they didn't consider that you'd eventually have to add something to those 2 additional outputs on the refinery? I think it is even worse than that. As...

Re: Friday Facts #303 - Under 100 bugs (but still not stable)

What I don't get is why Wube is the one paying the fee in this context. The text of law in my country states that if as a seller you ask for "strong authentification" during a purchase, then you are not responsible if the cardholder is not the legit cardowner. And as so there shouldn't be...

Re: Friday Facts #303 - Under 100 bugs (but still not stable)

Arguing that they are the problem is like arguing that ebay is problem because someone stole your phone and sells through it. So... Let's say you sell cars. If someone drove a car up to your lot wanting to sell it to you (for you to then resell it to another), you consider it perfectly fine to just...

Re: Friday Facts #300 - Special edition

A fantastic overview of the team, and some great memories of games. Sometimes I forget there are games other than Factorio on my computer. ;) Wish you all the best. I can’t speak for everyone, and I know it is a little silly (or cheesy) but my life has been enriched by having Factorio (an obvious la...

Re: Friday Facts #295 - New design for the chemical plant

I cannot remember the last time a FF came out AFTER I woke up. I love the look of the chemical plant. What color will the water be when making batteries? I say copper, just to stick it to the man as an homage to the original battery color. I miss the copper tops. :( I know why they were changed but...

All this complaining about three gears and no one mentions the utter uselessness of a single gear all by itself.
I dunno...sometimes I just like to watch things spin. :)

Re: I had a 450hours base (0.17)

The bugs are more aggressive and deadly.

I nearly died in a new default settings Death World. And that hasn’t happened in a long time.

I like it. But yeah, the changes are going to be a bit rough I think.

I find it odd that so few people play at a level which includes the possibility of losing?

I die from biters more than 75% of the time and love that I fail.
Honestly, looking forward to some of the biter bug fixes in 0.17. With the pollution fix, Death Worlds should be a lot more “Death”-y.

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch

Get a good book, read it, and come back on friday to read the next FFF. If 0.17 is out, you'll know at that moment, and chances are there will already have been a few tens or hundreds bugfixes, so it's all for the better for you. And this is extremely solid advice. Wube are damn good at what they d...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch

It would still be nice if one of the devs would join this thread writing something short like "Sorry, we didn't made it today. We're working hard on it. Thank you for your patience". And everyone waiting would know to forget factorio for the evening and be patient for the next day .. As g...

Not saying I disagree with the fact it wasn't guaranteed, since I also knew that. I couldn't stop laughing at the rest of what you said, especially since the coworkers who quit did play Factorio as well. Also, happy birthday to your son. It certainly isn’t unreasonable to call up some friends to pl...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch

I'm a remarkably patient man, but even I understand the frustrations involved when it comes to getting friends together to play, only to be told "It might be a while longer!" without much of a hint as to when. Especially with regards to the last FFF raising hopes of a release, only to be ...

Re: Friday Facts #283 - Prepare to Launch

I don't think you need that. There's already 7 flavors of science and the last few colors are basically empty. You don't need more tiers, they just need to be spaced out a bit better. So it's less like this: [RRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGMBPHS] And more like this [RRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGMMMMMMMB...

Re: Friday Facts #282 - 0.17 in sight

A starting island that can be bridged to a mainland (via landfill) sounds good. A starting island with nothing but water around it sounds like a recipe for a factory that dies because it can't get more resources. I'd like some clarification on which one we're getting. A starting island with nothing...
