Re: Feedback
I think balancing sniper turrets comes down to when you should be able to deal with giant+ worms. For attack/turret-creep, that is the big advantage they give you. Without shields a behemoth worm one shots you (even in heavy armor I believe). A sniper turret can just barely kill it before it dies (I...

Re: Bugs & FAQ
Why does mining rocks produce stone and geodes, but mining crystal rocks only produce stone? Shouldn't that be the other way around?

Re: Refining tips
Pre-filter inserters, I have the crushers feed directly into an assembler (for the crushed stone) and a sorter (for the crushed ore). Then the sorter empties onto a looping belt that runs past crushers (for the slag) and blast furnaces (for the ore). Basically relying on the fact that inserters only...

Re: Development and Discussion
It kinds of feels to me like the first ore sorting is useless though. You have no use for slag for a very long time and even then it is hard to convert to ores and has minimal yield. Handling the slag is just so much trouble for no obviously visible gain. You very easily get to mixed ore sorting wh...

Re: [0.15.x] Bob's Mods: General Discussion
Random question: Is there a reason that the gems do not have the same name as the recipe that creates them? One has a bobs- prefix the other doesn't. I was using the Recipe Combinator mod to do all my gem processing with just 3 assemblers and it is a giant pain because of that. I ended up creating a...

Re: 4K FPS is really poor
Holy cow, I didn't realize turning vsync off mattered that much. I was having the same problem in 4K, and in my last game even on the 1080 monitor (though not as bad). I turn off vsync and the flip went from 13-17 down to .3 and it now runs beautifully in both 4K and not.

Re: Trains are even more lethal than you thought!
The best is running out of track. Train stops instantly from full speed and neither you nor the train takes the slightest bit of damage.

Re: Train Contents, Reading, Loading Cargo with Inserters
I thought I had this solved by using combinators to only output the train contents when the train ID > 0. It doesn't solve the problem because of the fact that I have a condition on each inserter that checks the train contents. If it cannot read the train contents, then it will assume that it is ze...

Re: [0.12.x][v0.12.1] Bob's Greenhouse mod
I'd probably go with the Option setup. Also, would it be a good or bad idea if chopping down trees could give seedlings? I'd vote "bad". Cluttering up the inventory with something with only one use (though I suppose you could also burn them) would be a pain. Wood is at least used in sever...

Re: Train Contents, Reading, Loading Cargo with Inserters
If you are dealing with a max of a multiple of stack size, you can also just set filters and limits on the cargo wagon and then the inserter won't over load. Otherwise it sounds like a tick delay between the inserter having a valid place to put stuff and the signal of cargo size appearing to disable...

Re: What should I do with science packs?
Yeah, I was playing with the CHMMod stuff which removes zinc and adds a couple recipes to get it from iron or tin. RSO also adds zinc into the starting area. I think needing to import things for blue science is reasonable, you've got trains after all. It does pretty severely cut your need for oil th...

Re: What should I do with science packs?
bronze is convenient, because i usually have tin and copper on the same belt for making white circuits, which are also used in blue science Finally someone who has something good to say about my choice! I'm not sure how "good" that is. :P Bronze just isn't interesting or useful. All I did...

Re: What should I do with science packs?
Yeah, I liked the brass gear wheel way better. I realized on this playthrough that I could launch a rocket quite easily with no bronze and only a handful of batteries (mainly just for robots). I used a lot of brass gear wheels though. Having them automated for science was quite useful. It also made ...

Boilers changed. They now output steam at right angles to the flow of water. Steam engines only work with that steam.

Re: What should I do with science packs?
to be fair, Bronze IS used for other things too, just rarely. It felt right to have it as a research sink item. Brass gear wheels are a valid option though. Until I needed it for science I don't believe I ever created bronze. I must have never made the one or two buildings that required bronze pipe...

Re: Average Gameplay Session Length
The biggest difference between Dwarf Fortress and Factorio for me is that in DF you play the game paused (and only watch it while it is running), in Factorio you play the game while it is running (and can't do anything paused). I describe Factorio as a catastrophic game for me. It has pretty much ta...

Re: Ore gen, there's no middle ground
RSO's spawner placement is especially regimented... bases adhere strictly to the chunk-grid, and because placement per-chunk is entirely non-dependent on other chunks, nothing I did could make enemy base distributions that were clumped together to any significant degree. You can turn off RSO's cont...

Re: What should I do with science packs?
Feedback on the changes to science: batteries are annoying and bronze is only used for science. I wonder if it would be interesting to make blue science require brass gear wheels instead, since those would be useful to automate. So advanced circuit, engine and brass gear wheel. Still needs sulfuric ...
