Re: Rocket control parts so confused
Remember that the raw numbers are listed in terms of things the player can't make themselves. Which means that iron plates (which need to be forged) are counted as raw, but so are things like engines. The recipe for a tank will break down the intermediate products, but leave the engine as a raw valu...

Re: Feeding Furnace with Iron Ore
Yes I know! hehe How can I solve this, I Have 20 electric miners, do I need even more? How many miners feed 24 Furnaces? Right now I am considering not using a Splitter for the 2 lanes of ore. Instead I could get a separate Iron ore mining facility and feed each line with its own mine. Splitting do...

Re: If we were to make Factorio more realistic...
So, thoughts. The first is functionally identical to what happens now, assuming you have no heat loss. If you did, then you'd want to worry about whether the burner was on or not and how quickly it could turn on. Aka, way more effort than is required. Though, realistic and would make burners even mo...

Re: Idea: Replace "research" with "prototyping"
It sounds like a good idea that's terrible to play. Look at how many actual technologies there are. Sure, some of them would have the same input, but most don't. There's a lot of one-off materials and intermediaries once you get a little ways into the game. Getting each automated sounds like a royal...

Re: Achievements not quite working right
Achievement text for Solaris mentions three conditions: Steam engines are excluded. 10GJ are produced last_hour_only. Given that the wording is similar to other exclusion achievements, you likely need to make sure there are no steam-engines anywhere. Destroy em all, then play for an hour+ and genera...

Re: Wasting sulfuric acid (and maybe other fluids)?
The factories won't waste fluid. The factories will only produce resources if there's room, up to the storage capacity. You'll see this especially with oil plants, as they won't produce if one output is maxed out, even if all you care about is one of the oils. Possibilities on what you're seeing tha...

Re: Discovering the obvious
It took me a surprising number of startups to really look into coal versus wood. Given that the initial scenario/tutorial has you mining coal by hand in order to fuel burners, I did that each time. Then randomly saw some factorio video to see him mining lots of wood, then looked at actual values. Tw...

Re: Offshore Pumps not working at 100%
You should be fine doing what you said. I can't see any reason why such a setup wouldn't work out right, given that its' a setup I use all the time myself. Therefore, the most likely problem is that you've done something unintentionally that you aren't telling us (likely because you didn't realize i...

Re: Replays!
I actually want to watch a replay of my own games -- both for my own fun and to show others. But every update, we get "replay was recorded with 0.x.y and you have 0.x.z; replay disabled" message. Is there any way to upgrade replays to work in the current build? Especially for dot-releases...

Re: Turret comparison
Huh, now that's interesting. I first looked at the two and figured that laser turrets were strictly superior. Maybe I will use a gun turret only defense at some point, given that they are more than competitive against laser turrets. Still a royal pain to keep supplied though compared to the ease of ...

Re: Friday Facts #137 - The release scarecrow
Any chance for an upgraded version of the long inserter too? It's so useful at times for some setups, and seems like it could use the same upgrade that the fast inserter needed. Would also fit the new design just fine to call both rapid.
Otherwise, I find I like the new idea.

Re: Why isn't coal needed to make steel?
As others have pointed out, steel only has a little bit of carbon, the entire idea behind steel is to get a proper mix, which involves losing carbon, rather than adding to it. At least that's how it's usually done. Apparently there is a type of steel (Blister Steel) that involved increasing the carb...

Re: Targeting priority
I have read the 3 pages. To sum up: no targeting priority done. Closest enemy gets attacked. That's bad. Not really. Efficiency is key, and there's really only one type of turret up usually. Maybe it'd make sense modding wise if multiple turret types became popular...but best to keep things simple ...

Re: Power Stopped Working
Thanks, that fixed it. I must have moved stuff during the rebuild. However that's visually very confusing. It looked connected and there's no indication of an error - nothing like a "no water" error anywhere. If it's not moving/animating, it's not working. That's the visual feedback they ...

Trains I'd definitely do videos on. Also, introduction to logistics robots and whatnot are good. Other suggestions: power armor, vehicles, combat drones, and maybe showing what each weapon does and some good practice information on each.

Re: Been a while, what happened?
The first bit is completely expected. Putting them in hammerspace seems odd, but it does mean a lot less checking required to make sure that things happen right. Most people won't notice the difference, really. Doesn't bother me, all things considered. A car and a single battery take up the same spa...

Re: "WTF is..." your marketing guy doing ?
Getting the news out would be nice, but I will say I don't think having youtubers play the game would be all that great. Factorio is not one of those games where I think there's a whole lot to be gained from showing off pure gameplay. Most of my fun in this game comes from maintaining my factory and...

Re: Custom scenario world?
The game will keep creating segments as you go along, though I do think it's finite? I've seen edges where they're filled with water, but haven't yet looked around entirely. Most worlds should be more than big enough for you. (Do make sure to check around at the start to make sure you're not on a sm...

Character Customization
Not sure if this has been suggested before, but hadn't seen anything about it.' But the idea is: give us some ability to customize how we look, along with being able to save looks for different maps. I know right now we can change our coloring by using text commands, but I'm thinking this would work...
