Re: [Poll] "No research queue for you"
I agree with the decision and don’t care if there’s modding support for it so voted “No.” to simplify development/maintenance. Thinking back to Civ, I often queued up techs and almost just as often changed them. Being able to didn’t really add anything useful nor did it really save time in the long ...

Re: Oil Processing balance before launching rockets
You seem to have the right general idea, as far as I’m concerned, which is to make use of circuit conditions and get Advanced Oil Processing asap. The key is in always converting to the next stage (raw -> heavy -> light -> petrol) and always producing from the latest possible stage while cutting pow...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
Although unloading to fewer chests does reduce the time you have to bring the next train in after the previous one is empty. If it takes 50% longer to unload the train, then that's 50% more items that have already left on the belts before you start changing trains. If you don't switch fast enough, ...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
Slows down unloading the trains though since you don't use all the 12 places to have buffer chests. The maximum output for two lanes is 80 items per second. Assuming max inserter tech, unloading to four buffer chests is just over 110 items per second. Six buffer chests will fill up and slow the unl...

All directions, yes.
Mirrored, no. (Because the inserters insert on the splitter side of the belt.)

Re: [Experiment] Unloading 4 compressed blue belts per wagon.
Finally read through more than the first page of this thread. ;) Building on @timeshifter's "dumb dump" and @Teraka's splitter trick, I managed to make a tiny 2-lane output with only seven stack inserters and no circuitry or bots. The central stack inserter has to insert onto the belt or e...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
Wasn't a big fan of the chest to chest thing, but it's growing on me. I fiddled with it a bit to achieve the same output as the 6-lane bots. It only saves a few MW of power over the bots (stack inserters are power hungry too) and has a bit larger footprint but it's very solid and doesn't have the ti...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
I think this is it for the 3-6 station unless anyone has any more suggestions or finds a problem with it. Thanks for the help, have learned a lot with it so far. Made more request value tweaks and changes to the chests again. Active Providers do seem to help out the overloaded Buffer Chests more tha...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
Made more changes: Added a sixth wagon to even out the output lines and Roboports and be a multiple of the 1-2 train Replaced Active Providers with Passive Providers for maximum items during train swap More timing adjustments Seems to need 550(+?) bots now Todo: More timing adjustments, perhaps to s...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
@eradicator: Ok, so then enough bots to reach equilibrium, but that's still not the peak/potential. My thinking was essentially just that flooding the system with bots is probably bad and it did seem to be. I had set up an automated bot inserter that added bots to the system when needed but this ult...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
I made several more significant adjustments: Squished @timeshifter's 2-lane unloader and positioned it to draw directly from Buffer Chests instead of the Passive Requester pairs Further reduced bot requirement to 375 from 450 using only two Roboports per wagon instead of three Repositioned Roboports...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
Yeah, I’m ignoring the “average players” bit; I don’t think it’s really definable in a fruitful way. Blueprints make everything accessible to everyone so long as the input and output is clear. Beyond that, the intent becomes a matter of scale independent of ability. By scale, I mean the state of the...

Re: The thing about blueprints which fell under the table
I very much like this idea. Would make my recent blueprints easier because I wouldn't have to instruct people on how to construct and schedule trains to make the example function. I'd also be able to drop blueprints of large stackers already full of trains ready to go. But trains aren't static items...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
I have made some adjustments, both major and fine tuning, to my initial build as follows: Changed the 2-lane outputs to one of @timeshifter's designs, as DaveMcW's was skipping occasionally Unloading the 2-lane outputs into Passive Chests, inserters pulling from Requester Chests but not pulling from...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
@eradicator: probably right on the Buffer Chests. Wishful thinking on my part that bots would play nice trying to satisfy their demand by pulling from the over-full ones into the unsatisfied ones. According to the wiki, buffer chests won't even request from other buffer chests at all. I think a requ...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
Getting the train from the stacker to the station in 0.2s is impossible. Yes. And not necessary. Doing it in 3.2s is hard. I think you have to have a stacker, then a stretch where a single train can wait and then the station. The extra delay to get out of all the junctions in the stacker is too muc...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
Passive providers? Perhaps. That was meant for the chests on the other side of the wagon, where no inserters/belts are. I.e. where the infinity chests are in my picture. Passive providers have higher "input" priority than buffer chests as far as i know. And if you want somewhat even unloa...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
In my personal design I solve that problem by using short 1-2 trains and putting a regular signal behind the unloading train and chain signals up to the stacker, that way there can always be a train waiting and ready to move in at minimum distance. You can accomplish the same speed with longer trai...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
... [((20*50)/(40*4)) - (20*50)/(27.7*6)] ... "Burst" style factories aren't that bad actually. ... Lastly you want passive providers on the other side, not buffers. Essentially the same math I did, except a cargo wagon has 40 slots, not 20. (Or is that a mod changing things on me?) And I...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
Getting the trains in fast enough into a single station is just to hard to be usable. It isn't though. That's the easy part. You create a stacker and, signaled properly (a basic signal every couple wagon/engine lengths so trains can accelerate into the station from the stacker while the empty one i...
