Re: How do you build a filter?

So basically a tunnel can be glitchily used to stop the flow of one side of a belt but not the other.
This changes things.

Question: Does using the exit side of a tunnel work the same way?

Fix the Visibility of Trees on the Map.

joined -- ssilk The color of trees on the game's map makes them nearly impossible to see when zoomed out. I would like to see either A. the colors changed a little for higher visibility or B. an alternative color mode on the map like the alt key makes except for trees and other objects important to...

Re: [Design] Two Cargo Wagons to Blue Belt fastest

Quick Q about this design. If you have the stack bonus fully researched, is it better to use yellow basic inserters to unload the trains to chests or is it still better to use fast inserters? If the goal is to unload the trains as fast as possible, then fast inserters are the way to go. You could p...

Post your power armor loadout.

http://i.imgur.com/nZwUHOy.jpg This is my preferred layout for both combat and base work because it allows me to outrun biters and assault worm nests without risking my shields breaking and my suit taking damage. I have been thinking about a laser turret stack but I don't think I can fit unlimited ...

Re: 4 belt balancer

Does this balancer actually split the 4 streams evenly? Or does it just split those streams evenly when the belts are full? I can see how this belt setup can displace overflowing amounts of items onto adjacent belts to achieve a nearly optimized 4 lane throughput, but I don't think this setup can ac...

Re: Starting on a small isle?? Read this before you post!

I understand that the engine can't just check 10 tiles away, but is it possible to use the bugs pathfinding AI to fix this problem? Run a sort of "ghost bug" check upon map generation to see if the nearest bug nest can reach the player and maybe the second and third nearest nests as well? ...

Re: Supression of the size shift of electric furnaces

Therapist writes, he uses a single lane for the ore. With that the throughput is limited! And I think this is for many players the case. Fact: a single lane of a basic belt can load only up to - hm - 12 or 14, perhaps 16 stone furnaces. Not much more can be achieved, even with faster belts. Questio...

Re: Supression of the size shift of electric furnaces

When I'm doing coal based smelting, I put ore and coal on the same belt. Ending up with too many extra long arm inserters is always a big problem because they're useless for me long term. This is why I don't like the idea of building my smelting facilities with long arms for the preplanning of 3x3 s...

Re: Why are electric furnaces so expensive?

The form of carbon is important, though. You can't just throw in a tank of carbon oxides and expect it to work. :P Graphite is sometimes used for it, but it's needlessly expensive. Theoretically diamonds would also work. The form of carbon only dictates the method used in production. Carbon is carb...

Re: Why are electric furnaces so expensive?

In real life, coal is only useful for the stored power inside of it. In factorio, you need coal for producing goods I would just like to point out that this is not true. Coal is used for making plastics in reality, in addition to many chemical and agricultural products, carbon fibers, pollution scr...

Hate it. Looks cartoony, like I'm at the Tonka Trucks forums. Can't wait to login and make it go away. Not that I really like the original all white with a sky blue header, but the unfinished, basic, default-feeling nature of that layout, for me, matches the feeling of coming to read about and share...

Re: Add "Show pollution on map when detailed info info is on

Second or third or whatever this idea. On my girlie's laptop the game even lags when I have detailed view on so I'm interested to see if it is pollution on the minimap or the details overlay on my factory causing this. A couple ways to implement this idea: 1. Pressing the key to show detailed info c...

Re: Get rid of Pickaxe tool

The pickaxe is okay, my only gripe is that it runs out from dismantling my equipment. I would HATE having to switch tools to do different jobs (chainsaw would make a better weapon than a tool) but it feels alot like the devs just added the idea of the pickaxe being depleted for deconstruction just s...

Re: Supression of the size shift of electric furnaces

I just use long arm inserters on my 2x2 smelters until I get 3x3 electric smelters and switch to standard inserters. No belt redesign or factory rebuild, and I can swap out one at a time as I get enough plastic, not worrying about building the smelters and letting them sit in my inventory until I c...

Re: Why are electric furnaces so expensive?

Map size is infinite no? If so isn't coal infinite as well? The point is, you wouldn't have to explore miles of planet to get more resources if you don't squander the resources that are around you. Also, to be technical, you don't factor in the cost in coal to move the coal to your base, to mine th...

Heh yeah, I'm not even an environmentalist in real life. Lol. In real life, coal is only useful for the stored power inside of it. In factorio, you need coal for producing goods, and unlike oil, coal is finite. It just pains me to watch people shoot themselves in the foot and call it "legitimat...

Re: Why are electric furnaces so expensive?

I was very upset at the cost of plastic they added and the rigamarole it all causes with oil and oil processing, but at no point did I feel it was undeserved. I have never built more than 6 steam engines at once to power a real factory, before I switch to electrical power and dismantle those beasts....

Re: Supression of the size shift of electric furnaces

You should already have to redesign your factory by removing your "coal chutes" as I've been calling them in my factories. Then all you have to do is move 2 belts up or down by 1 space, an annoying redesign, but really not a big deal if you left yourself 1 tile free around your smelting fa...

Re: One Large Factory or Smaller Specialized Ones?

One large factory is easier to defend and requires less resources for the transporting of goods or electricity from one base to another. Several small specialized factories means your factories are spread out over a larger area, meaning that your pollution will be soaked up by the landscape quicker ...
