Re: Overpowered strategies
How about that to deal with 3 overpowered strategies at once: Battery Deterioration.png Accumulators/Laser Turrets/Robots deteriorate their batteries and every now and then they have to be swapped with a new one. The deterioration of a battery could be similar to how repair packs/ammunition works w...

Re: Loader Poll - Trying to get an idea of what the opinions are
So I have another idea to proffer: If we have just one level of loader and unloader, and it feeds onto a yellow belt at full speed, a red belt at half speed and a blue belt at one third speed, then as your factory advances, the complexity of using loaders increases if you wish to maintain full thro...

Re: Loader Poll - Trying to get an idea of what the opinions are
A thought: I do think loaders need balance, but none of the options listed seem quite right. I think the material requirements are on the right track, as loaders and unloaders do need a puzzle element to go with them beyond just being 2x1, but neither are quite right: Electricity requirements are so...

Re: Friday Facts #129 - The late game
As far as making green science more expensive, I think it depends a lot on how . If part of blue science, steel for example, is moved from to green science, I could definitely accept that. That said, while that might work for the goal of making the gap between red and blue science smaller, the first...

Re: Friday Facts #128 - Back down to earth
Fundamentally, I like the idea of a rapid loader and unloader, but it needs to be balanced. With that in mind, I've got two suggestions that I haven't seen much mention of yet, based off the old large bridge cranes thread. First: Loading and unloading don't necessarily need to use the same device. I...

Re: Solar panels less of a no-brainer
Phoenix' suggestion with Solar Thermal energy instead of Photovoltaic is probably the best solution the community came up with yet. I would have done something similar by fiddling around with the accumulators instead by implementing something like a wear-off system based on charging/recharging. The...

Re: Friday Facts #123 - Better circuit network (Part 2)
Hi all, After reading your comments, posts and feedback, both here and on the subreddit, it is clear that not everyone is happy with some of the proposed changes. While some people say "but the game is alpha its going to change", i do somewhat agree with some of the arguments against the ...

Re: Friday Facts #123 - Better circuit network (Part 2)
Last week I mentioned that I felt aggressively limiting the number of entities in the game could go too far. This, I think, is a good example of that. Removing the smart chest and filter inserter dramatically limits the simplicity of certain operations, such as item counting in train stations: With ...

Re: I need More power, Do you?
Hehe, in another thread people were complaining that solar panels are overpowered, they are 20 times better than real life. You can't please everyone. :P With that thread it depends on who you ask: For me, the heart of the complaint is less "Solar is OP!" and more "This powerful syst...

Re: Friday Facts #122 - Better circuit network (Part 1)
I also have kind of a design rule to try not add new entities in the game(not just combinator entities, entities in general), for a number of reasons: It's easier to get into the game without being overwhelmed by an unreasonable amount of content. One of the core fun things about Factorio is that y...

Re: Solar panels less of a no-brainer
I do agree with Afforess though that we shouldn't balance Solar power around a speed runner's perspective but that is simply because solar isn't meant to support the speed runner's playstyle. Nor do I see any reason for it to be. Well that is fine and dandy... however, it should not be balanced aro...

Re: Solar panels less of a no-brainer
I think the wrong approach is to try to balance or fix solar panels at all. Solar power has been in Factorio too long, and has created too many cached thoughts on how power generation should work. It's probably a lost cause. Ax it. Maybe a year or two after solar power is removed from the game, wit...

Re: Friday Facts #120 - Spidertron
As awesome as the spidertron is, and as much as I look forwards to it... I have to say, the thing that most caught my attention in this update? The three words "Fire spread experiments". Because whether it's just forests and biter bases that catch on fire or if we now have to worry about p...

Re: Solar panels less of a no-brainer
Replacing solar electric with solar thermal could be a neat thing. There are some pressing issues however. 1) Closed liquid loops don't function very well. I've seen the nuclear mod attempt it and it's not pretty as the fluid system seems to need air bubbles to work properly. That's a major reason ...

Re: Level 3 Module Oddity
I think the ultimate solution will be to make them more different. Having 3 identical recipes is boring. Hmmm, I foresee the first three levels of science packs being renamed to "high speed servos", "gantry mounted inserters"[or "rail mounted inserters"] and "prog...

Re: Solar panels less of a no-brainer
Okay, a few points, One: this is a bit of a nitpick but The best solar solution is going to affect the net value of panels as little as possible, while achieving the maximum output in how players have to rethink their gameplay. I don't think that's an unfair statement to make. The first half of this...

Re: Balancing research speed - marginally decreasing lab efficiency
The problem with saying that research speed is a gameplay style choice is.. What choice do I make for sustained, high resource costs when I can only build up my base so fast? Of course, the obvious solution to that, in my mind, isn't "decrease research efficiency" so much as "add more...
