Re: Can steam generators be used in emergencies only?

I personally like the water storage method. the idea is to store pre - heated water for use overnight. It acts as a very low tech accumulator. The main trick here is to limit the speed at which the water passes through the water boilers as it is getting heated. Water pump is ideal here, as with its ...

Re: Easy way to kill biter nests

1) Speed. The tank is really slow. It's faster to just carry it in your backpack and take it out just outside the nests, and then it takes a few seconds to put in ammo in every time which is a little annoying. This alone is enough for me to not use it after I get exoskeletons and shields as I want ...

I haven't updated my factorio since 10.1, and when switch on experimental updates and check for a new update, the game says no new updates available... Should I just download a fresh copy? Or am I doing something wrong? It definitely should work with the firewalls and so on, since I have already upd...

Re: Friday Facts #44 - Decision making

You may also need a pilots licence for the glider. I am not sure about Czech republic, but here in UK, you have to have training and a licence to fly a hanglider, or a paraglider. Its quite expensive, the base level is around £7000. For me that was the most expensive part of getting to fly with a h...

Damn, I suspected that this has already been brought up. I did search for "Pavement", but didn't turn up any good results. Sorry for the double post Ssilk.

Pavement, concrete slabs.

Joined into this, cause identical. ssilk ------------ The base of any building or factory are good foundations :) - would help with navigation, if we could pave roads; walkways, and differentiate sections of the factory with different paving slabs. - Could give minor bonuses like +10% HP for structu...

I generally like the sounds, the only exception is perhaps the furnace sound. It sounds rather like a small wood pile burning, not really like a ore smelter. high temperature coal fire is more uniform, something like This

Re: 2^x vs y*10^x

Since when do we do anything in base 2?!?!? Your computer probably did more calculations in base 2 during the time over which you wrote that post than you have and will ever do in base 10 in your entire life! Id wager that >99.9% of all calculations on this planet are done in base 2. and yes, writi...

Re: Self sustaining Solar Plant

I see the game as far from feature complete. There may be mechanics that will be implemented later that will make steam more viable than cheap solars. For example: earthquakes - large area damage - solar power plants with hundreds of structures will be much more vulnerable tornadoes - same as above ...

Re: Having trouble with train signals

If the train says no path, even if you remove all of the signals, there is a chance that the track has a missing rail somewhere. This happened to me. It is very hard to see in around the area where the rails split apart. Check all the joins by trying to lay down tracks.

Hint: We're people who are around binary all day. I think this game attracts a lot of people in fields where base 2 is something that is used regularly, and thus more natural. I myself am in electrical engineering, I'm familiar and fluent with both systems, as digital systems design and programming...

Fair enough. I just hope that you will make a reverse mod, If you convince the devs to change back to the original stacks... I really like the new stacks.

Re: Self sustaining Solar Plant

I think the turrets consume 600 kW per second while shooting. The duration depends on the duration of the biter attack. If you have constant sustained attack going on, they will keep firing all the time. On stand by they use 6 kW, IE when not firing at the enemy. There are a lot of variables when de...

Re: 2^x vs y*10^x

Well, I like this. A fair way to decide - voting. I personally don't think it will make much difference either way in the end. people will just as quick adopt the new stack sizes. It will be all irrelevant is 10 moths/a year from now, when the game goes beta. I voted decimal.
