Re: [Request] ELECTRIC BOILER
Not so useless reply to a thread that probably was better off dead. Realistically, I would expect an electric boiler to be 90% efficient or more, simply because your only heat loss is through the exterior insulation. Like so, such a boiler could be very practical for hot water pumped storage in Fact...

Re: Turrets on trains
Often suggested as point of fact. Modders have tried it before, and determined that the game's code just plain doesn't allow it. The turret code only works when stationary, you would have to delete and re-make the turret with each tick. However, you might like the equipment grids feature. It isn't e...

Re: ANTI-GRIEFING System
Griefing is comparable to Terrorism. You have no way to know somebody's intentions until they reveal themselves by performing an attack. There is no practical or sane manner to detect and remove them in advance without inconveniencing legitimate players, giving up a lot of your freedoms as a legit p...

Re: Barrels post-tanker?
So, long question short: With the introduction of the tank wagon, do you think you'll still have any use for the barrels at all? Even if we consider that the devs want to introduce universal barreling. I still will. Barrels stored in the logistics cloud makes it really easy to store huge amounts of...

Re: Griefers Griefers Griefers
Unfortunately the biggest way to encourage griefers to continue doing what they do is to cry about it and go on rants demanding something be done about griefing. They've ruined your day and made you cry. That is what they set out to do from the start. There have been talks before of community blackl...

Re: Research on feasibility of using depleted oil spawns to make fuel
n my experiments with oil-fired steam, I used 10 refineries with adv refining. I then had if I recall correctly, 2 heavy cracking 18 light -> fuel blocks and 14 gas -> fuel blocks. Gotta load up that save again at some point and re-count the ratio. But it made neat little blueprint and go fuel fact...

Re: Steam power energy conversion efficiency?
HAHAHAHAHAHAH NO.... basic Boilers are about 10-15% efficient. A 100% efficient boiler is impossible due to enthalpy or entropy (cant remember which). An ideal boiler would have the exhaust gas = the input water temp and exit water temp = exhaust gas input temp, but even then energy is lost to the ...

Re: Factorio and overclocking
You have to have a pretty big factory to hit this issue, but it has been said repeatedly by rseding that most of the time Factorio isn't CPU bottlenecked. On a typical modern capablility system, large factories will bottleneck by ram latency- the amount of data to update on each tick exceeds what yo...

Re: .15 ETA - how close is it?
It's possible for 0.15 to be delayed without the delay having anything to do with 0.14 - the original timeline for 0.14 before the multiplayer stuff was conceived may already have been too tight :) Said delay happened. The office shared a Flu that delayed progress by upwards of a week. Or so has be...

Guys, we're derailing into boilers which was never the point :/ I was talking about steam engines . upd: Yep, i messed up this previous message myself, sorry, it didn't make sense. The original question still stands though. I hadn't even considered the losses of the Generator I was only talking abo...

Re: Steam power energy conversion efficiency?
Hmm, okay. The in-game tip says 390kW: Screen Shot 2017-01-19 at 4.33.48 PM.png 50% is still unrealistic though^^ No its not. Real life power stations operate coal fired boilers with efficiency exceeding 80% being possible. http://www.brighthubengineering.com/power-plants/41375-running-a-coal-fired...

Re: PLC - Programmable Logic Controller
I think a small PLC of limited capacity would be okay. The real world counterpart would be a device about the same of a small tissue box or computer speaker with 8-10 inputs, 8-10 outputs, and capacity for at most 250 lines of code. It would of course provide a handful of timers and counters for con...

Re: Why are rails and trainstops required to be on even squares?
Just use belts to bridge the 2 tile gap between stack inserters. Its not that big of a deal, nor would it bottleneck you that badly. If you really really wanted to go faster, then make a dedicated logistics network to unload one train into active providers and load another from requesters with a goo...

Re: And / Or etc for circuitry
If you are talking about combinators, then this is something likely to be implemented soon No, it probably won't be. People have been asking for this for months. Thing is, the basic functionality required to make it possible already exists. You just need to think outside the box. Here's a tip for y...

Re: Stop console commands from disabling achievements
You do understand that they can't change the achivements system on steam, right? No custom marking there. And achivements don't register when you have mods. For that exact purpose. Not entirely correct. It is possible to insert mod code into the base game to provide the functionality you want witho...

Re: Rename the diesel locomotive to burner locomotive.
Diesel engines that used pulverized coal as fuel have existed in the past. Not so sure about diesel engines using pulverized telephone poles though. That seems like a bit of a stretch. I've got a steam locomotive partially implemented as a mod, it is possible to do it. But the fluid handling code as...

Re: Are the developers geniuses?
Albert Einstein had his problems in school too you know. His record was far from flawless, and more than a few sources suggest that he likely had some form of Aspergers or even ADHD that made it difficult for him to interact with other kids his age. Now being in a chatroom with some of the developer...

Re: All players, bots and vehicles should update radar intel
Yes, a 'vehicle radar' module to fit in the equipment grids would be nice. This would enable radar functionality around vehicles, giving them a range similar to the player but without the deep scans that the main radar dishes have. And since it would use the equipment grid the player could then choo...

Re: Accumulator / Solar panel ratio
Though the ideal ratio is right around 0.84 and I usually pattern in my own version of the roboport-center solar farm, I find it best to go heavy on the accumulators. The reason is simple- nighttime biter raids and other surge loads. Better to have more battery than you need so that the accus are ne...
