Re: [MOD 0.11.x] Ghosts From the Start

Trying to start a new game with this mod enabled causes the game to terminate abnormally with the following message: "Unexpected error occurred. You can help us to solve the problem by posting the contents of the log file on the Factorio forums." I've removed all mods, and added them back ...

Re: Biter nest sizes in 11.19 experimental release

Nope! I've generated a few levels in both 11.19 and 11.6, using the same map seed and with matching pairs of map settings. The answer to this "mystery" is simply that my old maps used to also have the "nest size" set from "medium" to "big". Shockingly , this c...

Re: Biter nest sizes in 11.19 experimental release

Well, thanks for the quick answer :) Still, I would have sworn the nests used to be bigger. Guess I'll have to investigate further and compare map-strings between versions, then. If I can re-create maps from older versions in 0.11.19 without variance, it means I observed a weird coincedence. Again, ...

Biter nest sizes in 11.19 experimental release

...so, I have to admit, I took a little "alpha exhaustion" hiatus from the game, so I missed quite a few releases over the last 3 months. One thing I noticed on my new map was that, despite lowering "enemy frequency" to very low, they still only got nests of about 2 or 3 spawners...

Re: Laser Turrets and their Speed Upgrades

Well, I'm not entirely sold on the idea that this is a bug... and seems like one, but it could also be some weird, but intended, buffer inflow mechanic at work, no?

Laser Turrets and their Speed Upgrades

... how do they work? So I've played around in Sandbox with them, trying to unterstand their energy consumptions and upgrades and stuff, and I just fail to make sense of the Laser Turret Speed Upgrades. Supposedly, they increase firing speed by 20% each on the lower levels, and 30% each on the highe...

Re: Tips & Tricks

One nice user on this board, mpstark, made a bunch of animated pictures, which I think should never be left out of any collection of tips (especially one aimed at newer players).

Thread's here, in case you haven't seen those: https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... f=5&t=3920

Re: About gun turrets

First off: Thanks, makers, for the draft function of this board. My first attempt at an answer was not fit to be posted, and being able to save a posting, come back later and remove the (worst of the) bile is just boss. I'm really really fond of draft management now. I also really, really love how t...

Re: About gun turrets

DPS per turret is irrelevant. If you want more damage, build more turrets. DPS matters in games where you are not able to scale the number of weapons firing. In Factorio, the concern is damage per resource or even higher meta is damage per pollution. Lasers approach zero for the denominator for bot...

Re: About gun turrets

Gun turrets are just a holdout for laser turrets. Excuse me? Lasers work purely on electricity, which can be produced 'material free' with solar panels and accumulator banks (with some supplimental fossil fuel power if needed). True... Guns actively drain your iron and copper reserves[...] Also qui...

[...]IMHO, they're fine as they are because of the large amount of space you need to make in order to get enough to equal steam engines.[...] They're just too cheap, IMHO, for the huge, gameplay-shifting effect they have, but that's another topic. My question to the OP: Why do you need to have your...

Re: Current content vs Final content

Trust me, the "one more improvement" effect, just as Civ's "one more turn" or XCOM's "one more mission" effect, will ensure you'll pour about 100 to 150 hours into the game before you've figured it out well enough to complete a session in 20 to 30 hours ;) And, oh my go...

Re: Suggestion summaries

Oh, yeah, I somehow failed to consider everything but the megatopics  I like the look of trello.com, at least from a quick glance. Does their idea of "free access" extend to commercial applications (which this could arguably be considered as) as well? Also... That's most important for...

Re: Suggestion summaries

Though I have no opinion or idea about step 2, I think how helpful step 1 will turn out to be, will depend how abstract you wish to keep the summaries. I'll take the balaning thread "Laser Turrets need upkeep" as example, since it's one in which I posted. (Any discussion of balancing is a ...

Re: Radar scanning (and re-scanning) speed

I think I said this in another thread, but I'll repeat it here (same topic, basically). The rescanning of sectors "feels" slow, because most of the time, there is no new information gained by "re-revelation". Because of this, and the fact that the "re-revelation" is not...

Re: Laser Turrets need upkeep

[...]As for the second point, I don't quite view it as a disadvantage. If you build so many accumulators that your power network can't handle them then you probably need to improve the network already. :P Of course, the number doesn't have to stay at 1% of capacity, it could be a lot lower, even be...
