That, and it's easy to lose biters in the trees due to their fairly simple pathfinding.
It's really fun to mow trees down with piercing shotgun shells, though!

Re: mute the game while alt-tabbed
Just to chime in... I'd like to see the music pause when the game is alt-tabbed. I'm running Factorio v0.9.8 Windows 64-bit build.
Everything else pauses, it's just the music which continues playing until the current song is over, then all sound from Factorio stops.

Re: What is factorio made in?
Interesting. We don't have any experience with Unity but we have discussed how it would have been if we started using it. Now we believe we made a good choice we used lightweight libraries and build the core engine ourselves. Often it is a PITA (especially for "trivial" things like Gui), ...

Re: Intersecting two unrelated train tracks, stop collisions
Put Factorio as a non-Steam game in Steam. F12 makes the screenshot. Win. I do this, too. Bonus: I can upload my screenshots to Steam and show off the game to my friends! As for tracks, really interesting discussion. As of yet I've not done multiple-train-per-track so had yet to toy around with sig...

Re: Hidden gem!
I'm actually happy that the devs are going slow on the Steam thing. It sounds like they don't need Steam, and to introduce that right now in their plans would just further complicate things. While everybody thinks it is great to be on Steam, there are some down sides. It's best they focus on polishi...

Re: Factorio you jerk
I don't know how hardcore it is, but I find I have to re-roll a world at times in order to get a starting location that just isn't insane. My current game, I had everything near me BUT coal. But that wasn't too bad a deal, as I found some to the south. I wasted more metal than I had wanted on runnin...

Re: What does pollution do if you can just wipe out the alie
I consider the pollution "terraforming." I mean, look, the guy crash-lands with tools for making coal-burning machines and steam engines. This doesn't strike me as some kind of eco-friendly future civilization. For all we know, humanity *requires* lethal levels of CO2 in the air in order t...

Re: What is factorio made in?
Allegro! Woo! I used to be a big Allegro user, back in the day. And by "back in the day" I mean "writing 32-bit MS-DOS games." :) Factorio also uses Lua for its scripting backend. Good choice, I love Lua. It's so easy to integrate into any larger code base. It gets a little messy...
