Re: Spidertron buff

spidertron's strength is in numbers and the fact they are remote controllable. make a group of them, outfit a few with lasers, some with rockets, some energy shields, roboports and repair packs. send them out. they don't even need exoskeletons, because they'll make it there eventually. What I have ...

Re: Spidertron buff

this sounds like a perfect solution for the mods that you don't have a problem with. you should try TagToTeleport mod, and just stop walking around the map altogether. Thanks for the tip, maybe I try it. I have no problems with mods but there is clearly many players who have. Therefore it would be ...

Re: Six legs good, Eight legs bad!

Yes, some people have a natural fear of anything with eight legs. The brain goes into alarm mode immediately and generates vivid memories to be recalled for more horror later when sleeping (or trying to fall asleep). It is irrational since it's only an image but the reaction is very real. Do brains...

Re: Spidertron buff

The thing is: all of these can be worked around. Nukes allow for fast biter clearing. Not using personal roboports allow for more bots and faster building. Each of those problems can be mostly lived with. Yes, but this is what I meant with combat or competitive mode. It is more interesting if you h...

Re: Accumulator / Solar panel ratio

Now, you might argue that the space needed to produce such fuel should be counted. And that’s not an unreasonable position to take, though how much space it takes will vary depending upon fuel and how many machines are needed to produce it, and to provide to those machines. Even so, you are still l...

Re: Question about base

That is one way to make a very well working base. I personally prefer a base where I have centralized production for raw materials and intermediates and they are transported to science, military stuff of workshop factories. But it is just my aesthetic opinion. There is no technical reasons to do so....

Re: Spidertron buff

Given the many abilities of the spider, I don't think a relative lack of speed is a problem. It has so many uses, it doesn't need to outclass every other means of transportation. There is a competition between game balance, in which only in game resources are taken int account, and megabase build e...

Re: We can't tell spidertron what to target?

You should not use nukes. It seems to work very well with red rockets in Nilaus's video.

Can player control shooting if he is inside spidertron?

If I think typical visitors who show interest on my base, 100000 of them cause shivers in my spine. I hesitate replacing machine gun turrets with ticket kiosk.

Re: Accumulator / Solar panel ratio

In the long run, for Mega (capital M) factories, that is true. I cannot really contribute if we're talking about Mega factories since that's outside my experience. Many calculations are made for megabase or other very long game. If you think to just achieve a winning condition the situation is much...

Re: Accumulator / Solar panel ratio

I made an excel sheet once to calc the correct numbers precisely. And of course there is no perfect ratio. Because of the two periods when there is a gradient of sunlight, it is possible to vary the ratio within some boundaries. And the larger the complex, the more the two numbers can vary obviousl...

Re: Accumulator / Solar panel ratio

every solar panel can provide 42kw constantly with the correct amount of accumulators. What about a safety margin? How much would be acceptable without being considered wastefull? It depends on your personal opinions. Many Factorio players want to have exact ratios everywhere, but practically power...

I would still like to see the benchmark results with this processor on the site. There is none. If not difficult :)
OK. I am at work now but I try to remember when I go to home.

Re: Requesting fps test on your machine

I feel it very strange 7 years old computer got almost same results than recent builds. I'm still investigating on why, trying to understand which build can run factorio best. Development speed of desktop processors have been almost negligible during last decade. Manufacturers have focused on mobil...

Re: Friday Facts #359 - Crash site: The beginning

I'm really glad the crash story is acknowledged in freeplay but something has always bothered me: why do we build a rocket if not to leave the planet? Shouldn't the winning condition be "launch ourselves into space" instead of a satellite? As someone mentioned, continued game would not fi...

Re: Destroyers require a buff

I agree. It is sad that combat bots have become obsolete compared to personal lasers or evolved biters. Bots would fit much better in Factorio's philosophy because they need materials, logistics, production plants etc. Laser defense is easy but boring no-brainer solution. Just build once and forget....

Re: Friday Facts #358 - Alien decoratives & Polluted water

I suggest that biters should had certain places around colonies (or in large colonies) for their nasty waste products. It would add natural feeling and immersion in game (at least for arthropod enthusiasts, which do not see them disgusting slimy stinking micromonsters). All insects keep their nests ...

Re: Completely demolishing your factory because it doesn't seem to support everything you want.

Only if you have like 1000 hours of gameplay you will probably be experienced enough to build a factory which inherently avoids all the mess. Even then you must have much self discipline and patience. I mean if you have 50 belts on pocket and you could build fast working solution, but instead you d...

Re: Completely demolishing your factory because it doesn't seem to support everything you want.

So, I ask you, has this happened to you ? Yes, in first games. Instead of demolishing old base I built a new base nearby. Now I make intentionally a starter base. It is very common practice among experienced players. It is more practical to build a small beginning base instead of leaving room for e...
