Re: How to calculate assembling time?

Just for reference, the mining speeds of different tools: iron axe: 2.5 steel axe: 4.0 burner drill: 2.5 electric drill: 3.0 There's still something off with the math, for example coal mined with an electric drill should take 2 / (3.0 - 0.9) = 0.952381 (what unit? seconds? probably not ticks), which...

Re: How to calculate assembling time?

Very interesting, thanks for the clarification. I'd have thought the mining hardness was a factor by itself. Also, I just noticed that copper, iron and coal have a hardness of .9, only stone has a hardness of .4, so the actual mining time is the same for all resources that are needed in a large quan...

Re: huh? can't find steel on my to-do list!

You need to put iron plates in a furnace to smelt them into steel plates, the same way you smelt iron ore to make iron plates.

Re: Tight Spot experiences

I just managed 3749 on the first level. I don't think I can stuff enough mining drills into the iron ore field to support more than two iron gear wheel factories, and I don't think I can optimize my layout much more.

Re: Tight Spot experiences

Well, the only one where I managed to make significantly more money than required for the easiest setting is level 3 with a final balance of 4641. As I already mentioned elsewhere, my favorite scenario pack challenge is transport belt madness. Tight spot is great, though, I just don't tend to muck a...

Re: How to calculate assembling time?

Maybe it just refers to the amount of damage your pick will sustain by manually mining it (and possibly the energy consumption of the mining drill).

Yeah, of course, but pmnox's post also contains numbers for the output rate of mining drills.

Re: How to calculate assembling time?

Also, different ores have a different “mining hardness”, so that has to account for something.

[0.5.0] crash on collision of train with cargo waggon

I have a locomotive set to go to a train stop with its path blocked by a cargo wagon. The wagon takes damage (is that really intended?), and when its health runs out the game exits with the following console message (also note “inerlal”, another buglet): Inernal error in RollingStock::getNeighborDir...

Re: thoughts about [0.5.0]

You can still build stations and order trains to go to them, can't you? Yeah, of course. But resolving stuck trains is easier if you can manually drive them. I also haven't found a way to attach cargo wagons to locomotives. Is it intended that the game asks you again whether you want the starting c...

Have you figured out any other way yet?
Well, the changelog says something about limiting the rate at which a capacitor can be charged or recharged.

Re: [0.5.0] updater crash (downloading scenario pack)

If the binary wasn't stripped, that would already make the stack trace way more useful. I was hoping you still had the symbol information lying around, so you can map the addresses to function names. Also, I tested some more, my initial observation about the crash only happening if you download the ...

[0.5.0] Updater should verify SSL certificate

I noticed that you're using HTTPS for communication with your update service. That's obviously a good thing, however I think you should verify the certificate of the server claiming to be www.factorio.com. As it is, I can easily sniff my own password by manipulating the DNS lookup and redirecting th...

[0.5.0] updater crash (downloading scenario pack)

When starting a clean installation of factorio (after deleting ~/.factorio), the game asks me to log in. After logging in, it asks whether I want to download the scenario pack. After clicking “Update now”, the game crashes with the following console output: Downloading https://www.factorio.com/updat...

Re: [0.4.1] 0.4.4 scenario pack tight spot-4

I think that maps level-4 and level-5 were edited with a version that is newer than the currently released alpha version. So I guess I need a version that is newer than mine 0.4.1 - build 4573. I think this is related to https://forums.factorio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=830 So you could download th...
