Re: Let's see your clever builds

I don't really see why people use burner inserters at all. I upgrade from hands to orange inserters, and skip burner inserters. They're so power hungry, and are rapidly outclassed, while hands don't really have a practical limit on throughput. With proper use of the large personal storage, and chest...

Re: Concrete and resources

Sounds good to me. Concrete and bricks magically appearing underneath trees and resources without severing them from the ground, in a smooth and constant form as though unbroken, is an unrealistic visual that works against immersion and believability. Yes, believability is not the top priority in Fa...

Assemblers return cancelled items

Since this post might never be read otherwise. It's about getting your materials back when you cancel an initiated assembler task (or equivalently, mine the assembler back into inventory). Currently, they are permanently consumed when the assembler begins production, rather than when it finishes. So...

Why your not simplifying matter by using a electric furnace?
Because, you have access to steel furnaces before electric ones.

Re: Belts instead of trains

I did just that, I used the circuit network to measure time, to rule out interference of stutter and other such issues. Good thing, because I measured 264 seconds, while the circuit measured 241s. So, my test counted 9688 items in 14460 game ticks, or 241.0 seconds exactly (by pure coincidence), whi...

Re: Stuttering/choppy gameplay

I'll try those more thoroughly later. I thought I'd add, that this might not entirely be a graphics issue, it might be related to the increased crashing and stutters in multiplayer (where the frame rate does not actually drop during the stuttering, and zooming remains completely fluid, but nothing e...

Re: Tips, Designs, & Tricks

Everyone else I've seen says they have the ore and coal down the center, but I ask why have the coal in the center? when you upgrade it will be going away, so have the ore and plate in the center so that doesn't change. I have two designs with steel furnaces, both designed to accept a saturated yel...

You can sort any number of items with splitters. To sort out n item types, you need a minimum (n-1)*2 splitters.

Re: Stuttering/choppy gameplay

I get the same stutters too, and it's truly annoying, quite disruptive, gets in the way of my want for precise testing. I assumed a lot of people had the same problem, because I saw so many threads about it. I get this problem with mods on, and with all mods disabled. I get it with normal graphical ...

I also wouldn't care if there's no compensation for the productivity bar. I can't imagine how you would do that, and it's impossible to do it perfectly in any case, because you can't have fractional items. The bonus bar is just like the bar above it... when you cancel, you don't get compensation for...

Re: Belts instead of trains

How is your belt throughput test setup coming? And how does it work? Whenever I try, the biggest problem is that the game stutters so frequently and so consistently (very, very annoying and persistent bug) that it messes up my measurements. The second biggest problem, is that the best way I have to ...

Re: Splitter not working properly

Only thing left to do is add some kind of backup protection because if the output is backed up the sorting will break until it is resolved. Is there anyway of "defense" which doesn't involve a loopback which will reduce throughput? The only way to truly prevent this, is to cut off the sup...

I like programming, and I would vote with Ssilk and tehroach. For a system like this (that is, a system working with truly natural numbers), a deliberate 0 and an absent value shouldn't be differentiated. An empty chest, and no chest, both result in an empty sum. And an empty sum, is 0, like an empt...

I detailed my steam engine backup here, to turn on steam engines when power gets low. I made it with big laser turret arrays in mind. It has a 0.20s activation delay triggered by even a slight power drop, and a configurable minimum run duration. https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=60...

The use of flooring is pretty. I'm too pragmatic and boring to do stuff like that.

I could also show my monolithic research block, but I'm not sure giving that up is in the spirit of the game. It overproduces yellow belts and inserters (which are nice to grab to accelerate manual production of higher belts and inserters). And it is primed for overproduction of batteries, all you n...

Re: Factorio Roadmap for 0.12 + 0.13

Something that seems like it fits perfectly into the list, is a circuit-controlled open/close fluid valve. For example, it seems a little clunky to need multiple small pumps to turn flow on and off, when all you would need is a single valve, because the offshore pump is sufficient (edit: also chemic...
