Re: Win an alienware!

Looks suspiciously like a ref-link, which is a link the poster is incentivized for spreading. It's a disgusting, noisy practice.

Re: Pirating as a 'demo'. Your opinions?

Frankly, factorio's ACTUAL demo is a rather poor demo of what you can actually expect. Pirating and then buying isn't nearly as unethical as people make it out to be. Technically illegal, though.

Re: Electric network info

Both would actually be a good idea, but relabeling (even just... switching the labels, basically) would go a long way towards making it more intuitive.

Re: Electric network info

I am around meters a significant part of my time, so a bar that shows the current value as a part of the maximum is not counter-intuitive to me.(And I think it shouldn't be to anyone) Right now, in the example, the consumption is 100% of what is maximum, and your production is at 25% of maximum cap...

Re: Electric network info

Definitely agreed, it's quite unclear and counterintuitive.

Ideally, IMO, it'd show production as a fraction of production potential (maximum output of all connected power sources) and consumption as a fraction of that. I have no idea how the current system is supposed to make any sense.

Re: Power poles/ power lines

I don't know. I agree that they can be unsightly - they look like cobwebs, actually - but they're part of the design process and not really something that should be "fixed". Instead, I'd suggest slightly buffing the wire range and supply area of the low and mid-tier poles. In the meantime,...

Elements/prototypes should be enumerable

Either an iterator (not sure if this is possible?) or a method on Entity that exposes the "keys" would be a good idea in the absence of documentation. If it's a method, it'd also be nice to be able to filter the keys so that you only get the ones that are specific to that element.

Re: lots and lots and lots of things

Oh yes. The claim that "the entire game" is a mod is a bit ridiculous, as modding hardly lets you do anything (or so it seems). My own suggestions that I haven't bothered making a separate topic for: - belt modifications, entities that can accept and place items to/from belts, also with ac...

Trains - "Time until departure" in tooltip/GUI

Just thought this would be very neat to have. I often wonder how much longer it is before the train leaves - being able to see this information by "hovering" the locomotive would be super. Or in the GUI.

Re: Replace the splitter with simpler unit operations

What other problems? The exaggerated "complexity" issue? The - to put it bluntly - bullshit about removing "depth"? Those are pretty much the only two issues I've seen. Where are the remaining 28? I'm sure we could go over them again.

Re: Replace the splitter with simpler unit operations

I don't get why this is even an ongoing debate. Why would you want a complex, poorly explained piece of machinery that may or may not be able to do exactly what you want, when you can have a small set of "building blocks" that are easy to understand, do exactly what they say, and enable yo...

Re: Forum is invisible to Google Bot

That depends on your captcha solution. A lot of modules are very old and basically not worth crap anymore. What kind did you use?

It sounds really weird that eg. reCaptcha would be cracked hundreds of times a day.

I also kind of wish you wouldn't have to weed through the research you can't DO yet because you don't have the proper research vials. I can't really come up with a good way to "algorithmize" it, though.

Re: Variation in recipes

Sure. That was me adding a bit of exaggeration - though it's definitely possible both to luck out (everything -25%) and the opposite (everything +25%). The thing is, I don't really see how this adds anything to the game that outweighs the annoyance. If the change were "let's see what the resear...

Besides, not having to deal with phpBB's horrible turd search is a good deal for having to install a captcha module - which I have no doubt exists. :p

Only for certain recipes, I think, and only the items - the total cost should stay roughly the same. If I generated a new world and everything cost 25% more than it should "just because", I'd reroll. :p

Re: Water uses, abuses, and removal.

I like the bridge idea. I think it seems pretty obvious (though you never know!) that some way of working with water outside of piping it to stuff is intended to show up at some point - but I do hope it's fairly soon. Apart from bridges (and possibly more importantly), I'd like some kind of water tr...

Re: Peace with Aliens

I like this idea. Another way to play a game is rarely a bad thing, and this would be appealing to the sort of people who have some sort of (probably justifiable) aversion towards massive alien splatter... :D
