Re: Friday Facts #133 - The train struggle

a more practical implementation may be.... to allow Inserters to get the stack size bonus they get for picking up from machines and Et Cetera, to picking things up from belts. which would let Inserters 'scoop' items from a belt. no new type needed at all, just probably a Research. but limited to fas...

Well, maybe not so much oil, but definitely ore.
It isn't available in one huge chunk of pure ore in real life.
Ore already has fluctuation, in unit volume. every deposit has a varied amount of resources in it.

Re: Way to get interesting map ?

i think terrain looks more interesting if you increase Terrain Segmentation. makes biomes 'tile' more, and to me it makes the terrain seem more varied. harder to build on as well, so makes your factories end up looking more interesting as well.

Re: SOLAR or STEAM [poll]

I do think that Factorio needs diversity in its energy, so I think adding Wind Turbines would be a good idea not what i was saying - that Mod calculates fluctuations in production. they don't produce the same amount of power at all times. that should be applied to Solar Panels. Wind Turbines perhap...

Railway 'roundabout', what's wrong here.

looked in the stickied Train post, this strangeness doesn't seem to apply, i don't think. http://i.imgur.com/cS1Pm87.png so what i'm trying to do here - the red line shows the only path the train can currently take. but the train should be able to take the two possible routes in Cyan? i've checked t...

Re: Too many seeds generated with only water in the starting are

Terrain Segmentation seems to make a huge impact. if you want more bodies of Water around, i'd suggest increasing Terrain Segmentation a bit.

just curious, why no Smart Long Handed Inserters?

this seems like an Inserter type that would exist alongside the other existing ones. but all i'm curious as to right now, is if there's a reason it doesn't already exist. yes, there's some Mods around that have exactly this Inserter (though they include ridiculous things like L Inserters, K Inserter...

Re: Loader Poll - Trying to get an idea of what the opinions are

they're pretty insane, and the sorts of costs and upkeep to make balanced... would also probably make them not worth bothering for the first 99% of the game. resource costs and crafting time alone doesn't do it, since that's just a time and logistics gate... if to exist at all, has to have some sort...

if you're starting a new session, you can also copy the Unique ID for your generated map for someone else to paste into the game and create the same map.
looks like this:

just highlight and copy like you would with any text.

Re: Can one add mods midgame?

yeah, when grabbing Mods, you'll need to check the first post, as well as the last page for newer versions or unofficial threads if someone's picking up a dead project. (*insert some grumble about people only posting version updates on the last page instead of the first post like someone sensible bu...

i dream about all kinds of things, work, games, other interests, Et Cetera.

maybe i'm just weird. seems normal to me though.

Re: SOLAR or STEAM [poll]

I dislike solar. i don't really disagree. Solar Panels are very... easy. so easy that i feel lame using them(outside of small scale deployment for small outposts or just as a bit of supplemental power for smaller grids that aren't connected to the mains). and infact, am totally fine with managing t...

Re: Annoyances associated with Factory building

a couple good ones: - when you're not paying attention, don't look before you cross the 'road', and get run over by one of your own Trains. - your friends in Multiplayer taking all of a material that's being produced without telling you, and you stare at that machine wondering what went wrong. - you...

Re: SOLAR or STEAM [poll]

a mixture of both is a good combination. both have their perks, so you might as well keep both around. you could just spam a million Solar Panels, but if you're the sort of person that wants to do that, you're not in this Thread anyways. while Steam needs Fuel, it produces a crapload more Electricit...

Re: Why use trains?

my vote is for efficiency. Trains will ultimately move items around the map faster, and in larger volumes. but significantly more complicated to setup. you can also hitch a ride on your Trains too, if you want to go where it's going. (or make dedicated high speed transport between bases) mostly just...
