Re: Error trying to load save on a very 'big' game.
I'm curious, how big is the save file? And how much RAM do you have?

Re: Questions about spawn points and dealing with aliens.
They leave power lines alone most of the time since they don't pollute. Occasionally, they will be attacked/destroyed when they are in the way/path -- but this doesn't happen often. And yes, I have a large area walled off. Basically anywhere I have equipment, simply to reduce interaction. To see the...

Re: High Memory Usage?
By the way, I was totally underestimating the number of hours I've spent in that game... it is more like 530+
And while there is some AFK time in that total, there isn't a lot of it.

Re: High Memory Usage?
Cool, thanks again. Just finished and my save file size decreased from 180m to 115m and the memory usage dropped to 4.5G. Which is still pretty high -- however, the game ran fine and saves completed in 7-8 seconds vs. 20 minutes plus it would take before. It does however make the terrain pretty bori...

Re: High Memory Usage?
Alright, cool. Well, I am glad to know it is a known problem versus "that's the way the game works". And that there is a interim solution. Obviously I've played this map for a long time 200 hours + and it was only recently it started being a problem. Apparently I crossed some kind memory u...

Re: Too many enemies :(
The LateUpgrades mod essentially would do that for you -- eventually you could get enough bonuses to robot damage and follower count that you could wade in and clear stuff out before the can really do you much damage. It would take A LOT of resources though... the upgrade costs scale up pretty fast,...

Re: Too many enemies :(
Oh, and there was a change to the biter behavior starting in version .13. They are more active about migrating and are no longer repelled by man-made objects. It did make it "harder", which I personally didn't agree with. I think it is a logic / planning game, not a combat game. There are ...

Re: Too many enemies :(
If you are fully researched, and can't cruise through the enemies, you are doing something wrong. You should have Power armor MK2 armor with no fewer than five Energy shield MK2s and two or three Portable fusion reactors. You should be walking in with no fewer than 100 Destroyer Robots active. And t...

High Memory Usage?
Howdy. I am currently running version 14.14 and I'm having issues with very high memory usage of a map which I figured qualifies as large, but not huge. The zip save file for my game is 180 M. When I have this map loaded, Factorio's memory usage goes up to about 6.5 G (of my total of 8). Not surpris...

Put a storage chest down where they are charging. After they're done, you can just pick up the chest.

Re: How to fill up outpost?
Easy to do with vanilla items and some combinator magic.... I guess I should have said it can't be done with ONLY a single inserter, which is actually what I meant. I thought perhaps using combinators might contain a solution, but I wouldn't have been able to describe it and hence I didn't mention ...

There are mods which have "charging stations" -- specifically meant to help address this "problem".

Re: How to fill up outpost?
Although it is possible for a circuit wire to carry the information indicating the number of multiple items in a chest or group of chests -- it is not possible to configure an inserter to act on more than one condition. So, there is no way to do this in the vanilla game using a single inserter. I su...

Re: A simple train crossing...
The basic thing I remember and use is this -- When tracks cross: Before the crossing, use a conditional signal; After the crossing use a standard rail signal.
If you cross two sets of tracks -- it would be conditional, crossing, conditional, crossing, standard rail signal.

Train menu updates
Howdy. Apologies in advance. I'm thinking this suggestion could have been made before -- if so, sorry for the repeat. I briefly tried searching for something like it but didn't seen anything. Anyway... I suggest the Diesel locomotive interface be slightly modified. Adding a "cargo" tab whi...

The 2-8 ore train, how are you getting the six inserters to load the three full belts like that? I am not able to reproduce that...Hannu wrote: http://imgur.com/jrXTGio

Re: Train offloading
Since I start the testing with the factory at zero output and with the belts, chests, and wagons all being completely full, the extra length should make no difference. The issue is seemingly the uneven pulling of load by the inserters down the line. However, just to prove it to myself, I'll try movi...

Re: Train offloading
I am tempted to say it seems to me that splitter logic must be seriously flawed for this to ever occur. However, I suspect there is something I am overlooking. If someone can express what it is, I would be very interested.

Re: Train offloading
This does work. It is kind of interesting. The pull is still uneven but when the leftmost cargo wagon runs out, eventually the set of chests associated with it fall behind the others and stops supplying ore. However because the flow from the others is at capacity it doesn't take too long for them to...

Re: Train offloading
Ah, okay. I see what you are saying now. An interesting approach, essentially force the uneven load to take from the supply evenly. I'll give it a whirl.
