Just chiming in to point out that there is a pause key (or key combo) that works at all times.
It doesn't allow you to close menus or queue production, but does allow you to change tabs, and show info on hover as normal.
If you're in need of some time to formulate a plan, this is perfect for it ...

Re: [0.6.4] Graphical issues on Linux - Intel
Just a btw, Intel graphics doesn't mean it runs on the CPU.
And if you really are running without a GPU, well, I'd be shocked that you didn't have even bigger problems with any graphical app.
If you are running on an Intel GPU, they're known to have bad/improper shaders and/or drivers.

Re: Better batteries and solar panels through research?
Unfortunately, just about everything you described as reasons graphics shouldn't matter don't apply to the mass market of gamers.
Those they do apply to are the ones that got in as backers already.

So I made the correction and uploaded the file and added link to first post, I hope you don't mind

Several of the mods have some sort of expansion to the solar and capacitor levels, perhaps one of them would work for you in the interim?

Another game with Orbital end game goals is the Outpost Series.
OP2 in particular has a decently flexible launching system, including some offensive payloads.
But like 2140, it's also an RTS.

Good Book, Great Author.
As for propulsion, our only viable techniques for interstellar travel that has any urgency (meaning solar sail/ion drives aren't suitable, as they are incredibly slow to accelerate) will be nuclear powered.
Whether it will be a Conventional or a Fusion-based approach is left ...

Re: Idea for the goal in the late game - supply ships on orb
If You want to add a drop of fuel to colony ship then you need a bucket of fuel to transport it. So mass of the ship was minimized and it has only fuell to fulfill a mission. Earth is overpopulated - there is no resources to make any colony ship able to travel beetwen planets of other solar systems ...

Re: Stack or dock factories?
Seems like a non-feature to me, since even a single basic inserter can keep up with any factory's production with the inserter stack upgrades.
Even without the upgrades, two fast inserters can still keep up with everything short of a max speed boosted wire factory.

Re: Idea for the goal in the late game - supply ships on orb
I avoided picking at the idea the first time I read it, but since someone else started the flow, I'll go and point out a big flaw as well.
If they made the trip to another star system, I can't believe that they wouldn't have the fuel to change orbit from the first to the 2nd planet.

I'm curious why you added a storage chest instead of additional requesters?
Until/unless Storage does become filtered a la Requesters or Smart Inserters, they don't have a good/efficient use.

You should zip up the folder before trying to upload, preferably with something other than Window's built-in zip program, as it's rather inefficient.
if it's still too big, there are sites like Dropbox or Rapidshare.

If you stopped using storage chests, you'd see a lot of these problems disappear. (Other than silly things like putting items *into* a requester chest :P)

Re: The sense of the provider chest
Yes and no. Storage does have a use, but it's pretty much limited to being a limit lifter.
If, for example, you find that your furnaces are backing up, and have been using provider chests for your outputs, then you could drop a few storage chests and, (assuming you have more than double your minimum ...
