Re: Friday Facts #36

The fact that it is LGPL (and not GPL) probably means there will not be license problems. LGPL means* you can freely use the library in any application, including commercial use, without having to make your own code open (i.e. - it is non-contagious). Only if you make changes to the library itself -...

Allow circuit network conditions from 0 up

(I first wanted to post it in "Bug reports", but I figured - there are probably more pressing issues to be dealt with :) . Also - there are tons of threads about the circuit network, but this is a very simple suggestion, which I believe is just something the developers overlooked. I haven'...

[0.9.8] Train runs a red light

I'm a bit hesitant to file this as a bug, because I am currently unable to reproduce it, but I have some guesses, and maybe the developers can find it anyway :) So - my rail system was working for a long time, and I was off on the other side of the map adding a new station, when I got a message that...

Re: [0.9.8] Pausing scheduled trains doesn't clear yellow si

Just posting to verify I'm witnessing this bug as well - if a train "reserves" a block, but then is manually stopped before it reaches this signal, the signal is stuck in yellow (reserved) state until you manually cross it.

Re: Wiki: Current and future

I came by this thread while looking at documentation stuff, and I got along to writing a simple converter for XML. It is not yet completely finished, and I'm sure it's rather ugly and inefficient, as it's the first time I've used Lua, and the data structure can be... confusing. I'm using cube's Load...

Why are you using red wire condition and not the logistic network condition?

Maybe it's related to this bug:

?
If this persists after 0.10 is released (should be this Friday) I'd suggest you post a message (+ a saved game) in the thread linked above...

Re: [MOD 0.9.8] Planning-Tool-Mod v0.1.0

This looks great. One option I think could be nice - have an option for the color to be "auto checkerboard", that is - the same color with 2 slightly different hue that automatically toggle between adjacent tiles, to help see the grid/distance. (this could simply be done with something lik...

Re: What use are storage chests?

What am I missing? Automatic deconstruction :) As far as I'm aware construction robots will only put deconstructed objects into storage chests, not provider chests. As for active provider chests - their usefulness is somewhat debatable. I can think of a few semi-useful scenarios for them, but nothi...

I'm watching most of your factorio videos as well, FishSandwich, and I find them very entertaining. It's just that commenting on Youtube is such a hassle that I never bother doing it

I think they changed the icons for 0.10 - you can see in the trailer the magazines have colored edges.

Re: [0.9.7] The direction of fluid entrence while building

I have a question - why does the assembly machine need an output pipe anyway? Presumably only a chemical plant can create a fluid product, so an assembly machine, while it may use an input pipe, would never need an output pipe. If this is not thought to change in the future (i.e. - assembly machines...

Re: Question About Radar

https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/index.php?title=Radar The radar gradually scans a much larger area than the one it keeps updated, so it is used to discover new parts of the map (that you haven't already been to yourself). Supposedly it keeps updating this area periodically, so if something changes ...

I must say I can't see why this would be super useful, but someone on the Show Your Creations forum showed he uses cargo wagons as boxes with up to 6 inserters on each side. A bit hackish, but I guess it works for now... edit: Here is the post I was talking about: https://forums.factorio.com/forum/v...

Re: Stupid question (Linux installation)

The archive comes with the correct permissions, so it seems weird you should have to use chmod. Even if he did, as long as he didn't use sudo to unpack the archive the files should be owned by him, so sudo shouldn't be necessary to change permissions. However, if you tried chmod and did not get an e...
