That's just the issue. I'm in sandbox mode, so there is no physical manifestation of the player. Thus, I have no way to destroy a chest full of items.

I'm just now getting into Factorio Sandbox Mode (I have around 600 hours in normal mode and I wanted to try something new), and I don't see any way to do away with unwanted items in my inventory. Is it possible to simply delete items?
