Re: Mods to (visually) help tacking circuitry wires

I do actually use PickerDollies to get help with creating combinator setups. It's invaluable. I start by placing combinators distributed over some area with much space to see every connection. I move them around and rotate them so functionality is visible and the wires are as short as possible and ...

Re: help & advice wanted: my late game pain points

Don't forget biter expansion. If a migrating biter group stops at a rail track by chance, the spawning nests and worms will destroy the tracks at that place. No attacks, no aggro required. They don't attack the tracks at that place, the tracks are simply replaced by the nests and worms at spawning ...

Thoughts, comments or feedback, feel free to leave me a message.

Although Koub moved this to a somewhat post-only thread, I dare to reply and possibly start a discussion:

@SKaterle, please try to use Factorio terminology, if you comment on game features and game items. You talk about technical ...

Re: Suggestion to edit/add info on wiki page about Application Directory

This directory doesn't exist on my Windows 11 system. I do have ....\steam\steamapps\<mysteamuserid>\427520\ but neither \ac\ nor \saves\ nor any *.zip saves within. Only a \remote\ directory with some configs (mirror of some files in %appdata%\factorio\...\*). My saves are in %appdata%\Factorio ...

Re: What FPS/UPS do you usually play at?

You can post your save in https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?p=115772#p115772 to show it to others, someone might have a comment on the ups. "Interesting" saves are sometimes commented by the devs and possible reasons given.

Low ups can have 2 completely different reasons:
1. slow hardware ...

You just need to stop reading the FFFs now and your're guaranteed to be surprised at release.

Re: Passive Requester Chests

The real problem is they count against logistic totals. Players using the buffer as storage probably like that behavior, but I'm using it as an actual buffer and I hate it.

I don't actually use the buffer chest sorting I described, because it's sorting without purpose. I just keep everything ...

Re: Passive Requester Chests

Yep. Distribute storage chests all around your explored area, and put buffer chests into your mall area, with filters what each chest should contain. Then items delivered as trash to all the storage chests are being sorted and consolidated back to the mall area in the buffer chests as second step ...

Re: Friday Facts #380 - Remote view

Seeing the more fleshed out map screenshots in combination with the different planets and all the fine tuning, it seems we all did so far play a demo version of Factorio with half of the features cut and level 1 only, and the real release with full scope and full factories and all levels is the ...

Re: New comp build - RAM being underclocked out of the box

Looking in the RAM compatibility list (sorry to persist with this), it seems the "2834" in "F5-5600J2834F32GX2-TZ5RK" tells about the latency (probably CAS 28, rest 34, for your module). And there are only G.skill modules with 36 and 40 CAS latency listed. No 28 latency modules. May be CAS 28 ...

Re: FFF is killing me

Everybody has to learn to wait at some point in their phase of growing up.

Patience is something you can celebrate. I, for example, am currently trying to sit out Facebook. I expect them fall, and I'm currently waiting for it. I saw them spawn, I saw them growing, I saw them being big. I assume ...

Re: New comp build - RAM being underclocked out of the box

It's difficult to judge how your RAM should work with your motherboard. The first thing I make sure if I buy RAM is to check the RAM compatibility list for my chosen motherboard on the vendor website. Should be https://de.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-Z790-CARBON-WIFI/support#mem for your motherboard.
You ...

Re: FFF is killing me

I would like to see some things in the FFF that are relevant now. The Experimental release recently was really good. A bit of advanced notice on releases relevent to the current game would be helpfull.

There are no announcements and no hints that features to vanilla Factorio discussed in the fff ...

Re: What FPS/UPS do you usually play at?

Normal game and normal base runs with 60 ups. I'm also building a megabase with 4.9 kspm in a sandbox map with lab tiles, and with everything except mines it got down to about 50 ups. This was with a Core-i7 6700k. I bought a new computer with a Core-i5 13600k, and it's back at 60, even with all the ...

Re: Giga-factory v1.0 (screenshots 1.2 Gb ! )

It's all a very nice big base, and it's especially nice you documented it here with all the screenshots.

However, I'm not sure what to do with all screenshots that come with your blueprint links. Many blueprint screenshots seem the same. It also doesn't help that your screenshots are not labeled in ...

You can also just wire the 10 belts to inserters with condition active if iron plate < 2 and stack size 1. 0 combinator, newb friendly. not super precise.

The core feature of a PID controller is that it's self-adjusts to maintain the desired value.

OMG, googling PID controller and reading ...

But here I'd raise the question how often people look for specific technologies, I have a hard time gauging that. Basically, whether we should take a lot of space on the main page to show them.

I remember that as beginner player, I didn't use the main page much. I used some of the links in the ...

Re: Friday Facts #379 - Abstract rewiring

It's not a spectacular change from the gamer's point of view, but it will definitely improve game experience. It is really slightly weird how the abstract items currently behave. How the wire connection changes will actually work out is yet to be seen, but there were also some oddities with auto ...

Re: Shadow angle, Wall

(Edit:) This is probably no bug. It's probably a means to make shadows visible to get a better illusion of 3D, even when they aren't 100% physically correct. Better 3D is achieved if the sun isn't exactly at 9 o'clock but at 10 o'clock, so the shadows are cast a little bit to the south as well, and ...
