Short answer in general: NO. You can't create another factorio client without reverse-engineering the current one as the source was not licensed to you in a legal manner. Both as a full screen mode and as a window mode give same results. Not sure if the code of an opengl error is related to the fullscreen only. Usually the game is at full screen as a separate virtual desktop so as not to bring up a collapsing panel with widgets when moving the mouse to the side. (so ...

At best it would probably come to changing alpha chan of the shadow sprite depending of the surrounding light level; but meh is it too costly for each of the shadow to calc?
