Re: Nerf the Portable Fusion Reactor?
The thing is, a game also has to be fun . If you want to make your case, don't (only) explain why it would be more realistic. Explain why it would be more fun than the way the PFR works now. I just think it would be more fun because it would pose a greater challenge. I like playing "as the eng...

Re: Nerf the Portable Fusion Reactor?
I constantly run out of energy when building larger blueprints, even with 3 PFR and ~8 Batteries. If the PFR gets nerfed it wouldn't be any fun to play anymore. Then, with a nerfed PFR, you need to keep a supply of burnables nearby, especially when you are doing energy intensive tasks. If re-supply...

Please explain to me: Prototype/ItemWithEntityData
I'm looking for a way to store some data on an entity itself. I need this data to persist even if the item is mined. I was told the only way of achieving this is using something like http://afforess.github.io/Factorio-Stdlib/modules/Entity.Entity.html to store the data "outside" the entity...

Re: Where can I find the source for the base-mod?
I found what I am looking for. On a mac, the base and core can be found within the game itself, at ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Factorio/factorio.app/Contents

Re: I wish the concept of "heat" and "pollution" could be reworked.
It also occurs to me that you could use the waste as a weapons payload. Load your waste into a rocket to make pollution missiles that antagonize biters but cause no damage. Put it in an artillery shell to launch pollution clouds to the far end of the map, drawing the biters away from your factory. O...

Regardless of modding-vs-vanilla: Please stop griefing each other (and me too, I don't appreciate the huffiness either) Please just leave your constructive feedback but keep the non-constructive thoughts to yourself. An endless loop of "That's just your opinion maaaan" isn't helpful. It's ...

Re: Tool "Durability" needs more flexibility
Once more thing- this could be handled with mods, by tracking the "potency" of waste "outside" the system. http://afforess.github.io/Factorio-Stdlib/modules/Entity.Entity.html Problems with this solution: - harder to implement. - the "durability" field is evident on the...

Tool "Durability" needs more flexibility
TL;DR https://wiki.factorio.com/Prototype/Tool#durability 1) The Prototype "Tool" has a field "durability". It should support "reverse-durability". 2) Recipes do not allow you to create a Tool with a non-maximum durability. What ? 1) The Tool prototype has a field &quo...

Re: I wish the concept of "heat" and "pollution" could be reworked.
Except maybe if it were possible to sequester the toxic byproducts where you want, instead of where they are produced. Yes, the scenario leads to a lot of interesting ways to manage waste. - Sequestering it far from your base, but you still need to defend it because biters will attack it - Saving u...

I wish the concept of "heat" and "pollution" could be reworked.
I was thinking about all the factorio clones out there and it made me thing that what if - Instead of pollution, all your machines radiate heat, which makes them more inefficient. Sort of the way nuclear reactors get a "bonus" by being close together, but where most machines get a debuf fo...

Re: Nerf the Portable Fusion Reactor?
"solaraccumulator" That wasn't a mistake. It produces double power half the time, storing half the power for when it stops producing. (still does 750kw 100% of the time) No, that is still incorrect. They are not equivalent- a PFR runs constantly, solar only at daytime. Even with accumulat...

Re: Please explain to me how the electrical system works.
I'd like to pull this conversation back to the question at hand.
But the real point of this post is to ascertain if such a mod is even possible
And if so, how difficult would it be?
Lastly, is my understanding of the grid mechanics accurate?

Re: Please explain to me how the electrical system works.
It's unfortunate but I feel as if I am pulling in a different direction than the community. Massive megabases ARE really cool but that's really not the draw, for me personally. I don't really want to push UPS with a planet-sized factorio- I'd rather have a smaller, but more technically complex base....

Re: Nerf the Portable Fusion Reactor?
A 4x4 solaraccumulator is not the same as the PFR. Solar only works during the day and the PFR runs constantly.

Re: More flexible Prototypes
An idea did occur to me- Perhaps the devs could make some multi-use prototypes, unused by vanilla, to serve as hooks for mods. Perhaps a "multi-equipment" prototype that theoretically supports ALL equipment prototypes, to be used under the caveat that it's not great for performance. It's j...

I pretty much expected that answer and yeah, I'm kind of bummed. I'm sure all these concerns have technical considerations tho.

More flexible Prototypes
I have now twice attempted to create a mod, only to be stymied in the same way and I was wondering if there's any sane way of dealing with it. The problem is this- I wish for more flexible prototypes. In one case, I wanted to create a "foot powered equipment generator" aka "reverse-ex...
