Re: Only one way to used coal.

If you have too much of it, stockpile it.

By the way, coal is also used to make plastics.

Re: Walking robots

I'm not a dev but the way I see it things like humongous walkers won't be possible for a while due to the horrid amount of sprites required to animate them and their impact on vram. About flying frames, I feel they are too expensive for a disposable combat drone with limited lifetime. Actually, I fe...

Why wouldn't they? I was under the impression that you're free to upload stuff.
Vimeo doesn't allow gaming videos. You can only upload screen-captured software (how-to's and such) and machinimas. Not sure why.

But apparently game developers can upload trailers.

Re: Replacing coal with oil (solid fuel)?

I'd use coal because oil wells dry up rather quickly and has more important uses.

Re: Friday Facts #32

The quality of the video is unsatisfactory compared to the original (Youtube recompresses the video) and we keep seeing more and more tiny little errors in the trailer - things like bad timing of honking when the train leaves the sorter, too close zooming now and there, one of the biters being rend...

Re: Why are electric furnaces so expensive?

No because inserters aren't furnaces.

Furnaces are designed to be automatically fed fuel, inserters on the other hand...

Because it would make coal furnaces redundant.

Re: Why are electric furnaces so expensive?

As the thread title says. I started a new game (my first) and I see I start with coal- and electric-powered versions of inserters and drills and electrical generators already available for construction, and yet and electrical furnace is buried in the tech tree and requires several hundred green sci...

I feel like this thread could use being a global sticky. A lot of people keep asking for it and generally it should be visible from everywhere.

Re: Car VS Trees

I think it's perfectly fine that the car isn't viable to drive in thick forests. It makes sense when you think about it. And most of all, it makes space for a wider variety of personal vehicles. Quad-hexapedal machines that can pass through trees like ghosts (abstracted, to simulate as if they knew ...

Re: Additions to the train system.

Type 1: Fast Locomotive Just as the normal locomotive, but has a higher top speed at the cost of higher fuel consumption. Useful for long travel without intermediary stops. What about a locomotive with a slot for the speed module? :P Problem is that productivity and efficiency modules wouldn't be t...

Re: The gravity of the planet could affect the energy costs

Seems a bit out of Factorio's sci-fi hardness scale.

Besides, it seems all maps are generated on the same planet inhabited by the same species of biters.

Slovak preview by me

Just a user preview, but it does the job. I mean, they didn't even have the game in their database till I showed up.

/I wrote a Minecraft preview in a similar fashion and see how that ended up!

Re: Transport water tubes

Oh, at first I thought this would be about proper liquid transportation over long distances, always thought those small pipes aren't the best. Apparently it's just Futurama tubes. http://theinfosphere.org/images/thumb/7/77/Opening_Credits.jpg/800px-Opening_Credits.jpg Nice idea, though. I am hoping ...
