Re: Friday Facts #331 - 0.18.0 release & Train pathfinder changes
So it's essentially just down to graphical improvements from now on. Those have been quite hit and miss lately, to be completely honest. The campaign could have been potentially interesting, potentially redundant, we won't get to see now I suppose. What I foremostly had high hopes for though, was th...

I've just got the joke from the title. WOW I'm fast! https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/1b/Internet_Explorer_9_icon.svg/64px-Internet_Explorer_9_icon.svg.png I assume you mean the reference to Foreigner's 1978 hit "Double Vision"? Yeah it's pretty vague but I saw it to...

Re: Friday Facts #329 - Campaign reassessment
The plan makes a lot of sense all things considered, especially the fact that it has to be put together and spit-shined in 8 months and a half. Adding a storytelling dimension can increase dev time exponentially.

Re: [MOD 0.17] Industrial Revolution
I was never much swayed by the big mods like angels, bobs etc., but this one had me intrigued right from the get-go with its strong direction, theme and production value. A truly rare combination for a game mod. Hats off to Deadlock for seeing it through this far, and high hopes for the mod's contin...

hmm, from these graphs I deduce rseding is the only person worthy of the title of the god emperor of mankind. because why not him? kovarex, on the other hand, was actually scrooge mcduck all along. an interesting development indeed the pageview graph shows a clear hedgehog tendency. it is obviously ...

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision
Yes, however at the start of the graph the juxtaposition should be slight, whereas in Factorio it's way out of whack. It takes hours before you even start automating. It leaves people confused and bored. That is an exaggeration. In the context of a new player it is most certainly not an exaggeratio...

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision
Whilst I agree that once you know what you are doing, starting a new game in Factorio can be a little slow, it doesn't take hours to get started (assuming you know what you are doing, and have used the map preview to pick a reasonable map). For me the start of a new game goes something like this. T...

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision
The flow/zone/"fun" is actually a rhytmical progression between frustration/anxiety and boredom. They're both a part of the package. Yea, there is no satisfaction without frustration Getting your first coal mining automated doesn't have meaning unless you went through the pain of mining t...

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision
Not what I meant. By "it plays itself past a certain point" I meant what psychologists and game designers sometimes refer to as "the zone". Simply put, the point where the game clicks and you engage with it without friction, frustration, confusion, or boredom. Even more simply p...

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision
You can't truly appreciate accessibility until you've made a game, had someone play the game for 5 minutes - and then drop it, telling you it's fun but not their thing... far before they even got to engage with the main hook of the game. The most insidious part of this kind of failure is that it do...

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision
That reads so funny to me, I just blindly dropped a couple dozen euro on them before they even had the name of the company figured out. How did you even know they existed? I certainly didn't know until Steam told me about this cool indie game I might like. I'm actively on the lookout for cool games...

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision
There is a 0% chance I would have ever heard of Factorio, much less bought it if the game wasn't on Steam. I already had a payment/trust relationship with Steam that I wouldn't have been willing to create with some random "Wube" company. Of course I wouldn't have gotten that far as my onl...

Re: Friday Facts #327 - 2020 Vision
I have a potentially simple solution ... E: Upon further consideration, Welcome to the rabbit hole! One of the things that Kovarex and I agree on, is that the burner phase of the game is currently the right length. Any shorter and you may as well remove it, and any longer it would become annoying. ...

I already have issues to see trees on the map preview and the new color scheme doesn't make it better. As an example: I can see that there are trees on the left side of the slider but i barely see trees on the right side - only a few 'brighter' dots within the red circle https://imgur.com/a/L9Xi1kl...

Yeah I'm not gonna even try for subtlety, this is straight up awful. I follow FFFs dilligently since almost the absolute beginning, and this has to be one of the worst ideas you guys have presented, if not the worst. It is that bad, sorry. The upped saturation and brightness is hard on the eyes, doe...
