Re: Pipe throughput measurements
+1 for longer pipes. They help with throughput issues, they're very cool looking, add new puzzles to the game, and easier to tear down / place with bots.

Re: why prod modules are important
It sort of depends, pollution is only part of the equation. Factory footprint is important as well because larger, sprawling bases are tricky to defend, especially when biters have been amped up due to settings or mods.

Re: (SPOILERS!) Space Exploration 0.5 / 1,360 spm / mining 616 / 6.7k hours
Yeah, I avoided using spaceships as much as possible, except for moving naq around and the DSS generating stuff. They felt buggy and were definitely UPS killers. And no worries, I expect nothing of no one :) Just idle chatter. Discord in general is a very bad idea, imho. Slack for work makes sense, ...

Re: (SPOILERS!) Space Exploration 0.5 / 1,360 spm / mining 616 / 6.7k hours
Already the train transport between nauvis and norbit has been replaced by a 0.6 elevator. This eliminates the frequent and depressing lag caused by the spaceship elevator used in 0.5 and makes the game progress much more comfortable. I'm seeing the opposite, unless by spaceship elevator you actual...

I may not fully understand your method. Is it different from the generally well-known method of force-feeding, where some type of recipes are executed when there is more of a certain greek ? And my concern is that the method may not produce high spm and many arcospheres are needed. No, and lol, I w...

Re: Lore and its lack in Factorio.
I think its good that there is no real mission. No HQ that gives you the next task to do. The tech tree is more than enough to guide the player through the game. The back story does not really matter. You end up on a planet, there is no contact to where ever you came from. Help is not expected. You...

Re: Parrallel processing in games & applications
And that is probably the biggest misconception of why most multithreading code shows no improvements. There's a misconception. Multithreading does exist (belts, one of the biggest mainstays of the game). The choice seemed to be to do it tactically rather than architecturally. My guess is that it wa...

Lore and its lack in Factorio.
One of the curious things about Factorio is the general lack of lore. We have a basic subplot (crash land on the planet) but beyond that, Wube made the obviously conscious decision not to spend too much effort on story. There was a good reason for that, I guess, so as to let the players and mod auth...

Re: Defending your base is just to easy!
Apologies to the dead horses, but I thought this was both fun and illustrative. I also really can't speak enough of this mod and it's a true travesty - imho - it's not getting the attention it deserves. But, it must be what the mod author wants, so I guess I really can't complain. Still, a shame - I...

Re: Defending your base is just to easy!
"required to make marathon deathworld easier" come on man... it's just a game. I mean, really, is that what this is about? Lol.. ok, I admit I was wrong. I should have said unless you're willing to use efficiency modules, it's going to be harder. Though to be fair, given the base that he p...

Re: Defending your base is just to easy!
Honestly mmmpi, I think I see what you're trying to say, and they're good points. EM3 is painfully expensive. I hope you'll take a moment and see my side.

Re: Defending your base is just to easy!
Here's a simple build.. a miner with a pm3, 2 beacons. filled with em3 -60%, filled with em1, +10%? Yeah, I get that em3 is quite a bit more expensive and maybe wube should do something about that, but eventually it'll pay off. And maybe that's the real argument here.. the pay off time on em3 is pai...

Re: Defending your base is just to easy!
Just Want to add, that 3 eff1 in miners and assembler's(esp. assembler3 with 4 modules slots) are the way to go. eff2 could be used in pumpjacks and electric furnaces to max them out, because they only have 2 slots, but it's already quite questionable. 1 eff2 is lot more expensive than 3 eff1. (2 e...

Re: Defending your base is just to easy!
Admittedly, some of the suggestions from that link are pretty silly: Handcraft as much as possible!: All ammo was hand crafted, which helps tip the pollution math in your favor. All red science was hand crafted until I started green science. Yes, this meant that, for awhile, I was doing nothing but ...

Re: Defending your base is just to easy!
that' "might" be the case but when looking at people posting pictures of their DWM megabase or speedrun, no-one uses eff3 module which to me makes it more likely that it is not the case. Actually it was you who made the case! :) From your link: KISS: Keep It Small Silly: Yes, the factory ...

Re: Defending your base is just to easy!
Pumpjacks don't :) That actually would be an absolutely perfect use case for eff3 as you want to suck out as much as possible as fast as possible and there are so few of them. I max beacon / module every last one of those. Never done it, but after discussing it here, I can see how it would have save...

Re: Defending your base is just to easy!
believe it makes DW marathon easier than your word Honestly, if you love factorio, you should just give it a try. Yes, it's very PvE, but it actually presents a lot of interesting challenges. But don't amp up your starting area like that other guy. That really doesn't present very interesting chall...
