Not really impossible to have 3D terrain ... but also impractical and not like the op have thought of. To make it work you need a few more types of terrain. slope up (one for all directions), slope down (also in all directions), air, and impassible terrain. I opened about a dozen new games just to validate that and seriously, the new terrain looks like splattered paint. Whatever biomes they put up - they are TINY. The is an really easy way to fix that, leave the old in and add the new one. And since those are pure decorative, I suggest you have only to produce one type and decide what it will look like when you place it. Though I have no idea how to implement it. Waitex ... I know they are working on it ... but currently his HD looks so much nicer than vanilla.

Haven't tried it with 0.13.1 but I had similar issues in 0.13.0 Screenshot_0301_2016_06_29-18_31_46.jpg When maps runs longer 1 sometimes disconnects 2 as well, 2 can connect one als well (they are separated). I just saw the same thing in a game I'm playing. Screenshot below, save game attached. If you pick up a red chain and place it down, it will be green. As soon as a train drives past it, it remains red forever. It works fine, trains drive through, it's just visually it never shows green again... htt...
