Re: Limit the input on underground belts and splitters.

Your reasoning resonates with me. It does look weird when inserters grab items out of nowhere. On the other hand changing this behavior would break backwards compatibility and many factories wouldn't work anymore and need to be redesigned. Maybe such a change would need a lot of advance notice in or...

Re: Auto-Download required mods when joining a server

I highly doubt mod developers would object to a change that makes it easier for people to use their mod, and you could also require them to accept new terms that allows end-users to distribute mods via hosting servers. Ther might be one modder who disagrees and then that's a problem. I'm not deep e...

Re: "WTF is..." your marketing guy doing ?

$2-3 thousand PER EPISODE from YouTubers to play his game. It's pretty ridiculous. It's economics. If you want to live from it, you need somewhere of 5-15k per month coming in. You need to build up your reputation and viewerbase. That needs to be paid at some point, too. Sure, a 100 episode series ...

Re: Auto-Download required mods when joining a server

I read in another thread that one thing holding this back is copyright. For some games, they have a central repository for the mods where developers have uploaded them since the copyright terms did not allow redistribution via local game servers. So the problem is more legal than purely technical.

Re: Friday Facts #128 - Back down to earth

Also concerning the people who would favor the Loader requiring Lube for operation... That is something quite a lot of the items/entities should be requiring already, not only the Loader. Especially in their more advanced forms. Many of them should be requiring Lube constantly to operate at a faste...

Re: Friday Facts #128 - Back down to earth

But this makes all non-smart inserters useless except for extreme edge cases. New technologies should not invalidate old work. New technologies should give new options and opportunities, not completely supplant old ones. I think you misunderstood. Inserters don't need lubricant to run. They don't n...

Re: Friday Facts #128 - Back down to earth

maybe huge power consumption, or even, could consume lubricant in order to work ? I was against it until I heard this lubricant idea and now I am for it. There should be able tradeoff with loaders compated to inserters, and not just something trivial like higher initial cost. I like the comsume lub...

Toilet

I swear to god, I used the search function and I did not find the most important building in the whole damn galaxy: The toilet! After a long flight and a horrible crash where he almost s*** his pants his muscles are clenching harder and harder during millions of hours of gameplay. It's getting close...

Re: Friday Facts #128 - Back down to earth

I think if it is implemented, it is a given that it will be animated. And I think it is extremely important that if it does end up in the game, it can never replace all of, or even most of, the inserters. It wouldn't necessarily need to be animated if it is kind of an entrance to/exit from an assem...

Makes belts (and trains) more relevant in comparison to robots in the late game. Or you could nerf the robots by giving the chests a limited throughput by introducing a little delay to make them at most as fast as one fast inserter taking items from a belt ( https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.ph...

Recursion stack overflow :) belt1 gets changed which calls the next-in-series belt2 which updates and calls next-in-series and so on. Too many at a time and the stack overflows. Given that the stack should be several Megabytes in size, how long does the belt have to be for this overflow to occur? H...

Re: An idea to significantly extend the endgame

After reading it thrice: Nope, I still don't get it. Everything in the game right now is geared toward building the rocket to leave. Nothing is sustainable. The whole game would have to change for the player to stay on that planet. That idea is wholly different from a market used to trade stuff for ...

Re: An idea to significantly extend the endgame

You're conflating rocket launches with the market unnecessarily. If you fulfill a contract, you'd use some kind of short-range teleporter to deliver the goods, or perhaps build a collection point so that contractee can collect their order (again probably just by beaming it up). I did not think of t...

Re: More Scenery (buildings, abandoned settlements, npcs...)

Nnnnot so fast. It is, after all, always possible that there once was an intelligent species on the planet, but they all got killed somehow. Or previous (failed) attempts at colonizing the planet may have left remnants. Especially if it is a dangerous planet. Space ships crash all the time and not ...
