But Vanilla should only do what's most sensible from the gameplay perspective.

The fact that there have been so few reports/complaints/suggestions on this particular subject until very recently would make me inclined to think that only a handful of people have been bothered by that 'maybe not ...

I linked to one in the second post of this thread. It's a doddle.
Oh well in that case I guess I'm gonna go ahead and install it.

Re: The pulse function on inserters (+belts?) is inconsistent (under low power) and a noob trap. Please remove if unfixa

Tbh I think it makes more sense gameplay-wise for ammo turrets to require power than for combinators, but I digress.

I haven't tried making mods for Factorio, but just for the sake of argument I couldn't find any mods that make circuits/assemblers not require power, so I assume it's also not that ...

Re: Any way to transport raw materials under water?..

Without mods: Use Landfill to make a bridge. Just know that it's gonna be expensive. Or run a railway all the way around the lake, this should usually be less expensive but it technically does not answer the question

With mods: Use boats, tunnels, planes, teleporters or just shoot it across.

Re: The pulse function on inserters (+belts?) is inconsistent (under low power) and a noob trap. Please remove if unfixa

I mean, why stop there. Belts don't need power. Ammo turrets track and fire without power. Why should I be vexed by the tedious problem of powering inserters and assemblers too?

It's called the race to the bottom.

You can mod combinators and any other powered entity to not use power (or at ...

I did, but I think he died (or at least left Factorio).
I'm also not sure if this is even possible to do in a mod. If it was wouldn't someone have done it already?

Re: The pulse function on inserters (+belts?) is inconsistent (under low power) and a noob trap. Please remove if unfixa

Well if I try running my CPU at 50% power it's probably not gonna run properly so... Yeah.

I propose a different sollution: Make combinators not use power like belts ("Powering up combinators is a challenging and interesting part of the game!" - said noone ever)

Re: Optimization idea: abstraction

- If the belt is not compressed you still know the rate at which items are placed on the belt by the inserters
But only after some processing time.

- It can still be expressed as a mathematical function
It’s not deterministic under conditions outside of the function scope.

Well now you're ...

I kind of feel like we should mention
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/circuitissimo
in this context, too.

Yeah I just installed circuitissimo and it's almost what I had in mind.
The only problem is once again copying circuits. Blueprinting does not work at all as it doesn't include all the ...

Re: [0.17+] Circuitissimo / Circuit Warehouses / Factorissimo-Style Combinator

I've just installed this mod and I got the impression that it's supposed to allow you to blueprint and copy Circuitissimo combinators. However when creating a blueprint all the mini-combinators inside don't get included, so the copied combinator is empty. The only way to copy the combinators inside ...

Re: Optimization idea: abstraction

Tbh I was sure this is already in place cuz the game is just so well-optimised and it makes so much sense.

Every production line works in a deterministic manner so it should be possible to express everything as a "lazy" function - only calculated the moment a player checks it

But it needs a lot ...

Integrated Circuitry

I am the kind of guy who designed a Minecraft redstone calculator at 14. In short I like to nerd out. I enjoy using the circuit network to create overcomplicated solutions to simple problems. The thing with the circuit network is that it can get really messy. Unlike Minecraft where you can place ...

Re: Defensive turret line order, what turret is best up front?

OT: are there any threads discussing linear defense alternatives? I could not find any (geometric art doesn't count).
I just saw yet another laser wall, but I think it is less effective unless you use 2+ rows of lasers.

Idk but i've seen people use walls like dragons teeth and put belts into ...

Re: The RTS Twist

My vision of the RTS twist is :
- Destroy the spawners with automated artillery, which uses resources,
- Let the punitive attack vaporize itself on the regular defenses (turrets, mines, walls and whatnot), which uses resources or only energy
- Expand the defense perimeter in the direction the 2 ...

Re: The RTS Twist

AAI is your best bet for this.

But, it does not really work. This is because the biters have basically one resource, Spawners. They keep spitting out replacement biters/spitters frequently until killed.

The ONLY way to have a “you both lost some” outcome is basically an incomplete win : you take ...

The RTS Twist

I realise this has been talked about before but I think the game almost begs for some RTS flavor. And yes I do realise there's some RTS mods but I think it could be done a lot better and a lot more... Factorio.

You might be wondering: why? Well, for one, the way combat currently works you can ...
