Re: [0.11.13] Linux Version - Save games in $HOME somewhere
Turning on writing stuff to system folders (/usr/) doesn't seem like a good idea. Couldn't you just change the config path to point somwhere under $HOME?

Re: [0.10.12] Crash On startup
How much video RAM does your computer have? Factorio uses *a lot* of it.

Biggest problem with compute shaders is the hardware that properly supports them is already good enough to not need them

Re: Buildings construct time.
I approve of this.
Sure, it'll make it a bit more inconvenient to upgrade big setups but it would help balancing the game a bit and would make a whole lot of sense.

Yes, you are correct. "General purpose" calculations on GPU doesn't have anything to do with 3D rendering.

Re: 3D rendering
Just because I can't see a good reason to offload some things to GPU doesn't mean nothing could. I would think wind and pollution spreading could be mapped relatively well to GPU. Sure, current model of it seems to be very trivial and it wouldn't really help with much but it would allow making the p...

Re: 3D rendering
GPU sorting sucks ;) It does if you take into account that this sorting used absolutely best possible data structures for GPUs that you likely can't use reasonably well in a factorio-like game. There essentially was zero random access and the sorting scaled linearly with memory bandwidth, not so mu...

Re: 3D rendering
Game of life is so trivial that it's not even funny. You should look how "efficient" modern GPUs are at as basic tasks as sorting or just even random memory access ;) Another thing to note is that even in Game of Life it takes nearly 100k identical elements to be "simulated" with...

Re: 3D rendering
using massive parallel GPU calculations like CUDA/OpenCL (which are just PERFECT for Factorio!) No, not really. While the numbers on paper look nice the time it takes to transfer the data to GPU and back takes ages. not to mention GPU calculations are awfully inefficient as soon as any sort of cond...

Re: Picture-in-Picture for events
It would be nice if the events would go into some sort of a log that we can pull up after the message itself has gone away. Another nice thing would be to see an arrow pointing towards the event when one clicks on it. Currently it can be a bit troublesome to try to figure out what way to run to help...

Re: [MOD 0.?.x] ZTech - making research harder (or easier) A
does it work with multiple science packs yet? (more of the same type) As was said, this is a bug and devs decided to disable such recipes so I have no need to "fix" the bug :) science without red packsrequirements like in dytech? Technically it does work but not quite correctly and I beli...

Re: (Request) Higher research cost
I've had a similar "problem" and made a mod that fixes things in a bit different way. Basically the higher level research you have the more lower-end science packs it takes forcing you to keep expanding your production areas throughout the game. The mod is really raw at the moment and if s...

Re: Question regarding Base Layouts
Only time I use faster belts is if slower ones can't move stuff fast enough. E.g furnaces can't offload their produce as the belt is already full of stuff from other furnaces.
The actual speed of stuff moving on belts rarely matters, it's all about throughput.

Re: Voracious burner inserter
Working as intended
burner-inserters should use anything with fuel value once their fuel slot is empty. If you use it to move coal it will start "eating" coal once old fuel has ran out.

Re: 3 Tile High Science-2 Assembly Line
Couldn't you move the copper cable assembler right next to circuit one and lift cabels directly from it instead of using belts? With any level of inserter stack bonus it should be capable of providing enough cables to not bottleneck the line.

Re: Research Codes
Main problem I can see with this is that it would allow people to completely skip collecting artifacts to get their high-end stuff. It would also make automating labs rather complicated if not impossible. How would labs know what science packs to prefer to use first? In case that there is a shortage...

Re: Poor mans double wide chest
Another advantage of the car doublechest: It can be moved by belts. I can't think of a use for it at the moment, but I'm sure somebody smarter than me would see one. If you have a circular belts carrying tons of cars and have higher-level inserter stack bonus then you could move a whole lot of item...

Re: Increased scroll speed for map by zoom level
I'm almost certain that the slowdown is caused by the computer not being able to run the game fast enough. I'm afraid there is no other "fix" than to upgrade your computer or optimize the game

have net deposits of natural gas, pure gas, natural gas in general - is methane, which is then converted as early as blue gas that goes to the plates at home. If I remember correctly then they only add color and smell to the gas before sending it to our homes. Without those it'd be odorless and col...
