Re: Friday Facts #403 - Train stops 2.0

Train naming and train limit There are probably a very good (or very bad) jokes one could make here about naming the stop and all available trains swarming to it. One such joke is a comparison to the Sorcerer's Apprentice, who did not give the enchanted broom adequately precise instructions, and wa...

Re: Friday Facts #398 - Fulgora

When you record stuff for FFF, could you make the aspect ratio slightly wider? I've had trouble fitting a few of your recordings and screenshots, including these, in my screen without zooming out a fair bit. I'm not even using a widescreen either, so I don't think it's my browser making it bigger...

Re: Friday Facts #399 - Trash to Treasure

You think you're real slick with those fluid puns, don't you? But I have to admit, this whole planet is pretty cool . And some of the changes you made are quite shocking (Let that missed pun sink in). This is outstanding (you know, that's how you get shocked here: standing out. Okay I'm done :D )! O...

Re: Friday Facts #383 - Super force building

Supper Forced: Will work the same way as above but will also apply landfill in the areas where there is water. Therefore you do not need to landfill the place with water before you place BP or do this again because there was ONE spot with water right under a building. If landfill is reversible now,...

Re: Friday Facts #387 - Swimming in lava

Vulcan sounds more interesting with each FFF :) So, recycling an iron plate will just return an iron plate , with 25% chance. Wouldn't it return the ore? More to my point, why would it return itself? If you'd include the sentences before that: This isn't the case for smelting and chemical processes...

Re: [1.1.87] Freeze at specific time

The maximum integer value that a double can represent with full accuracy is 2^52, or 2.37 million years' worth of ticks. Can you imagine the disappointment that would befall the first player whose game froze 2.37 million years later? This is not fast two years Factorio speedrun... P.S. Sorry for my...

Re: Friday Facts #387 - Swimming in lava

Whoops, I think I caught some possible typos in the post. From there is was down to Jerzy to build this monster into its final form: So, recycling an iron plate will just return an iron plate , with 25% chance. Wouldn't it return the ore? More to my point, why would it return itself? (I'll delete th...

Re: Friday Facts #385 - Asteroid Collector

The Navmap was really good thinking IMO. Minecraft uses the former to great effect to allow villagers to find their way to a nearby village if they end up in the middle of nowhere. Each chunk assigns a number indicating the number of chunks between there and the nearest village, then villagers wond...

Re: Friday Facts #386 - Vulcanus

As long as the planet would still be interesting even if the lava were removed then it is still a strong design. Adding lava doesn't have to detract from the other features of the planet as long as it is done right. This is such a practical example of the rule of thumb tvtropers would probably know...

Re: Friday Facts #385 - Asteroid Collector

Looks great, and nice optimizations. The Navmap Navmesh was really good thinking IMO. Minecraft uses something like that like your tile navigation, the thing you were doing BEFORE and I misread the post (thank you Qon) to great effect to allow homeless villagers to find their way to a nearby village...

Re: Friday Facts #383 - Super force building

If landfill is reversible now, and other tile placements like extending a space platform are likely to follow (you want every action to be reversible when possible, from what it sounds like)... should we even need to hold the "super" key if placing tiles is the only thing blocking a bluepr...

This is why now you can just "mine" entities remotely to mark them for deconstruction. :o Oh you magnificent bastards. You have no idea how long I've been wanting this and didn't even realize it because I got used to the "current way" of doing it. ... What's the ETA for ...

Re: Friday Facts #379 - Abstract rewiring

When you started to talk about some of the problems with the old way of handling wire connections, the software engineer in me cringed. I smelled it before you'd started actually describing it, yet the code smell didn't make the feeling any better. Glad you paid off some of your tech debt, and I'm S...

Here it is! (beep boop) https://factorio.com/blog/post/fff-377 With that S bend and all the added flexibility, I think I might actually be able to enjoy working with rails enough to make my own modular blueprints instead of just using the 2 lane rails from "Kitch's Factorio Blueprint Book"...

PS:
@Yenz: what does "nb:" stand for?
nota bene: note well; note
for some reason I did not recognize the abbreviation, though I have come across the phrase before. Thank you for the clarification!

Re: [SOLVED][0.18.32] Blueprint library restoration?

This thread helped me a lot. I had a problem restoring my blueprint library (blueprint-storage.dat) from a backup after I've deleted it for testing stuff. nb: I had my blueprints still available even after deleting the file, I had to delete all books/blueprints from the ingame menu to get it empty....

Also love that blueprint wallet string  What's special about the wallet string :?: Put it in a hex-to-UTF8 converter like this one: https://onlinehextools.com/convert-hex-to-utf8 Can you post the result (maybe in a spoiler)? I didn't read until May so I didn't even think to check the date on the post. I saw YouTube and got suspicious, then I saw the f...
