Re: Friday Facts #348 - The final GUI update

... but this has been promised and then poof, along with the fluid dynamics. Nobody promised anything. Like Coffee stain promised to release on steam in may and now it*s may 33rd. Just alternate the facts - like blueprint library overhaul will be implemmented in 1.0 in parallel universe x-alpha 232...

https://i.imgur.com/jSBYa3H.png Are those engines? Apparently - I don't really see it. This was the one that stuck out to me most, it looks more like a belt of some sort than anything else, especially not an engine (there isn't any part to propel it). Other questions: Do the sounds overlap? How doe...

You can also just Control + Alt + Click the settings button on the menu to access the hidden settings. Then you don't need to worry about config.ini at all! :D

They are not ""public""/official. That's why all the "documentation" on them is done by community members who reverse engineered it.

Re: Version 0.18.24

Developers are biased (this isn't meant derogatorily). Also, users are more creative when it comes to breaking things. And, of course, developers can only test things within the environment that's available to them -- which won't cover every combination of hard- and software that may be out in the ...

Re: Canonical web resource of versions

] Yep, I grabbed the link from https://wiki.factorio.com/Download_API. It didn't have the get-available-versions link, so I also added that just now. That doesn't have https://updater.factorio.com/get-download-link either, but I don't know how exactly that's used (...because it's not documented the...

Re: Canonical web resource of versions

https://updater.factorio.com/get-available-versions will give you a list of possible update paths, and https://updater.factorio.com/get-download-link will get you a link to download something or other (you have to send that some parameters but I'm not quite sure what). See https://github.com/narc0ti...

it shouldn't be available if the platform doesn't support it, really - otherwise like any tunable in graphics setting (as an example) that lets you enable options you shouldn't for performance reasons, let it be turned on even if it'll slow them down too much.
Yeah, I'm fine with that.

Re: better compression algorithm for saves and mods

Non-blocking saving isn't possible to implement on windows in the same way it works on the other platforms. Windows does not have process forking. I'm not an expert on Windows APIs by any means, but apparently there is ZwCreateProcess which is similar. ( example 1 , example 2 ( original ) - first i...

stop trying to apply it to everybody, i never asked for it to be the default option, i've said several times it can be optional. Okay so that's why I asked So can you tell me exactly when you want this to be default, optional, and not available? (Obviously decompression should be available everywhe...

* No non-blocking saving on Windows last I checked * Throughput might not be an issue for non-blocking autosaves, but potentially multiple minutes is unacceptable if it's blocking. * How long the saving takes directly impacts how long it will take to join a server - both for the initial wait, and t...

Re: Liquid fuels - suggestion template

As vehicles cannot be directly supplied by pipe, you could refuel them using liquid pumps (as filling a fluid train wagon) and enable players to create their own automatic gas stations. Park the car near the pump, make a condition to fill the vehicle. Sounds nice in theory, but I can imagine proble...

Re: better compression algorithm for saves and mods

Just out of curiosity, what/are there any compressed file formats other than zip Windows/MacOS can open natively? (Not saying that everyone shouldn't have 7-zip or something installed....) It's nice to be able to just open them natively on the OS level (although granted the people who will be manual...

Zlib 1.1.4 per this, apparently (as of a few months back) - not sure if that helps.
