Re: Today's forum skin update

Fixed width is much better for reading text like forum posts. Why would you want ultrawide text?

The new forum also seems to be way faster :D

Re: Friday Facts #250 - Dead end conclusion

Special behavior: when picking up a Blueprinting Tool from the blueprint library, it is replaced with a "hand". This means that when pressing Q to drop it, it is not returned to the player inventory, instead, back to that slot in the blueprint library. This is so blueprints can easily be ...

Re: Friday Facts #248 - Not Saturday Facts

improved VRAM usage would be a nice thing, since 3GB for the high-res is quite steep for older cards, causing major FPS drops while passing dense trees or steam engines. I've been playing around with some of the graphics options, but it's still pretty confusing :? High res textures are specifically...

Re: Friday Facts #231 - Belt compression & Crash log uploading

Instead of thinking so much about the consent, it would be much simpler to just remove all potential PII from the crash logs and call it a day. For example, the path is most likely not useful when you just want the stack trace..

Re: High VRAM demand but in fact verly low GPU requirements

The saddest part is that this is completely invisible to DirectX or OpenGL. The game can't force itself to be initialized on the high performance card, drivers decide on which GPU given application should run. So when you say "[games] aren't aware of the SLI pair" it's acctually graphics ...

That doesn't seem to be related, his gpu is slow all the time while this issue can be fixed quickly by just tabbing out and back in.

Re: Clickable links in chat

This could possibly be abused by spambots, that scan the server list and connect to servers in order to post advertisement links. Also, if the number of players on the server is high, it may also attract human spammers. The Factorio forums also has similar problems with spam (which is handled very ...

Clickable links in chat

This is pretty straight forward, if I paste a link in chat it should be possible to click on it and open the page in the default browser.

For some reason I can't reproduce the problem today, it always runs at 60 fps now. I'll try those things if it happens again sometime

It's probably additive, otherwise the reports per day would be increasing massively - which makes no sense.

It does, but g-sync is only used if your monitor supports it aswell (typically these cost around $200 more than comparable monitors without) and you specifically enable it.

Re: [0.16.26] Bad fps after game start until alt+tab

Secondly - do you have screen with G-sync? Yeah, is that part of it? Would be surprising, since no other game (3d or 2d) has a similar problem with this setup. How much work can I ask you to do to help investigate the issue? Can I prepare steps to capture GPU trace, that you could send to me? You'd...

Re: [0.16.27] Inserter behind pole draws in front of it

It is limitation of 2D sprite-based engine. We want inserter hand to be drawn over machines when dropping to them and sadly that means it is drawn also over power-pole like this. It seems like most of these issues could be fixed by sorting sprites based on their y coordinate before batching. Is the...
