Re: Catch nuke explosion event

Wow, that is way better than what I'd planned. Thank you for the link. I'll just use that mod, but I still want to dig in and see 'how' they did it!

Catch nuke explosion event

I want to run code to modify the terrain wherever it gets nuked. I couldn't see any particular event that would be triggered on a nuke explosion. Currently I'm searching over the surface for 'nuclear-ground' tiles. This of course isn't particularly efficient on large maps. Can you suggest a better w...

Biter corpse piles too deep

TL;DR When a hundred biter die in one spot, don't keep all hundred corpses. After about a dozen, you can't see any difference. What ? https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/1916332/58908046-c8185900-86cc-11e9-816c-024995ed6220.PNG In the middle of this pile, the corpses are much deeper than the ...

Re: Friday Facts #293 - New remnants 2 & 1.0 Marketing plan

A popular news outlet you should look into would be Arstechnica.com. They do a "war stories" series about the challenges of game development. They also cater to the exact content you mentioned in the blog post. Definitely could be a valuable partner in getting the factorio story out there...

you know, enough shields helps even with train. as long, as you notice, that your purple bar is going down :D Yeah, it's fine when I'm on biter patrol, because I'll have 4+ shields equipped. But when I'm building, I'm maxing out my movement speed and roboports, so I generally only have one or two s...

You posted this a while ago, but in case you don't know yet: The non-steam version doesn't get steam achievements. It does track them locally though, so in game you can get them.

Re: Information on why things are failing!

Just for the benefit of those of us who are not familiar with this part of the internet, why do people invest time effort and money to carry out DDOS attacks that bring down public DNSs? I get that evil "cyber criminals" send out malicious emails and add and such to recruit the computers ...

Re: Friday Facts #161 - Infinite Research and Blueprint Library

For the pollution Map calculations: you might be able to further optimise it by dividing all the tiles into 60 chunks and always updating one of those chunks. The Advantage is that you don't have to skip so many tiles with each Access which should greatly improve Cache locality and thus give you fa...

Re: Group to assist mod/script/tool developers

TLDR: Get a group together to proactively prevent mods/scripts/tools from death when the developer could use help. I think it is a good idea. The problem with software development in a group is, that the afford for quality-management, tests, releases etc. etc. rises extremely compared to single res...

Group to assist mod/script/tool developers

I'm having trouble finding a proper title for this post. I'll use an example that I've run into myself. I've been using a script to launch my headless factorio server. It worked great. One of the recent .14.x releases broke the script because it doesn't know about the changes to parameters and serve...

That is one neat looking power plant. Too fiddly to build the islands for my taste, but it's a lot nicer looking than the standard layouts.

Re: Friday facts #158 - The end of the 32 bit era

Oh. And I throw out dozens of machines a year. Those machines have all been 64-bit capable for many years. But, literally, no-one will take them off my hands except WEEE-registered recycling companies who CHARGE ME to take them away. So if you're desperately poor and can't afford a 64-bit machine a...

Just as a handy note for the save size, if you want to reduce it the undecorator mod works wonders, can easily halve the size.
