Re: Friday Facts #261 - Performance + New player interaction

I'd suggest altering the sleep timer to sleep for a shorter period of time, then run a spinlock on awake to time the next update more accurately. Using a spinlock waker also allows to pre-warm execution threads , as it takes time for the OS to wake them all up again. Nice idea. But if not implement...

Re: Friday Facts #261 - Performance + New player interaction

Also, I found out that game is way more stable in performance in tight resource situations (for me it's playing game, recording in OBS for stream via CPU and in parallel recording via nvenc video card a local file) when I set core affinity (I usually give Factorio 2 cores out of 4 - works out brill...

Re: Friday Facts #241 - New player experience

Here are my thoughts on game tutorial: First thing that I would do is scrap the "one level for one tutorial" design and instead join all of the tutorials into one level. Now if you want to prevent player from wandering off you can always limit him by generating just part of the map first a...

Re: nerf bots with additional maintenance costs

At the time I made the decision to make my own suggestion thread Well when I posted my suggestion I actually created a new thread here in "Ideas and Suggestions" section but it was moved to FF224 thread by moderators where it was overlooked by others. I was surprised that moderators haven...

Re: Factorio Lag Killer

I highly doubt developers will implement something like this. Why? Adding another different game behavior would double the code needed for game as each behavior set would have its own code. Also doubling the code would also mean doubling the chance for new bugs being introduced into the game and not...

Re: nerf bots with additional maintenance costs

is it just my imagination or did you copy my idea from FF224 thread? Hi! In Friday Facts 224 developers sad that they thing that logistics bots are to powerful and that for small time they even thinking about removing them. I do agree with them that logistics bots are too powerful but I do not think...

Re: Friday Facts #225 - Bots versus belts (part 2)

I see that suggestions about possible bot nerfing are still the same as they were in previous FF like increased power requirement, increased waiting times, lower carrying capacities. The problem with all these suggestions is that thy can easily be overcome by simply building more logistic robots, in...

Re: why Is the factorio gear rusted?

Why is the Factorio gear rusted? Probably due to all that pollution that is being caused by all those nasty machines. You see acid rain that is most common result of heavy pollution is greatly speeding up the corrosion process. Now why hasn't it been preplaced? When you build your factory in Factori...

Re: How did you discover Factorio?

I actually discovered Factorio when I was searching on google for some Factory simulation game similar to Free Enterprise http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/538/Free+Enterprise.html Now after visiting the Factorio website, reading the description and looking at the old frailer video I wasn't very ent...

How to properly nerf logistics robots - FF224

Hi! In Friday Facts 224 developers sad that they thing that logistics bots are to powerful and that for small time they even thinking about removing them. I do agree with them that logistics bots are too powerful but I do not think they should be removed but instead nerfed a bit. Now why are logisti...

Re: Money

You say that prices for oil and gasoline went down. While they did went down in US they didn't go down in many other countries. For instance if I just look at fuel prices in Slovenia (my country) fro the time we gained independence back in 2004 till today fuel prices doubled. And there are many coun...

Re: Friday Facts #117 - Path Finder Optimisation I

I'm wondering why developers are avoiding of implementing a heuristic path finding algorithm. Heuristic path finding algorithms excel in finding long paths especially on maps with large unreachable areas (big lakes or walled in areas) or room based maps (using walls and gates you can reach this in F...

Re: Friday Facts #117 - Path Finder Optimisation I

sometimes biters on the sides of a group will sometimes branch off from charging a direction to go somewhere else or attack something else. I'd really like to understand how they work, so don't be afraid to post an essay about it, this stuff really interests me and I love learning :) The reason why...

We use allegro for that, I don't know how is it solved internally. After quick look at allegro documentation it seems that allegro us using keyboard and mouse hooks for receiving inputs. This means that allegro will probably "eat" all the keyboard and mouse events that it is configured to...

Re: Factorio & Windows 10 and Team speak.

@Malaras Binding a middle mouse button to talk in Team Speak is probably not the best idea because general windows development guideline is that any mouse clicks are only intended to the window on which the click was made and not to any other application. So many applications would prevent team spea...

Either that or modify the download page to also include the Scenario pack download link for those who have been granted access to it.
