I would absolutely embrace the charging pole for the robots.
Something that would require way less space than roboport and is used solely for charging them.

That's sad that big pole v2a is so hard to implement - it's the greatest one. The big pole v1 is awful - it looks like some toy. The v2b also looks strange. According to the translation strings devs are planning to add: uranium ore, two types of uranium, uranium fuel cells, depleted uranium fuel cells, uranium rounds, uranium cannon shells and... Atomic bombs!

I have a idea with the supercapacitors in electric trains. They would allow to charge up on the train stops very quickly and run up on the gathered power. I strongly disagree with you.
One of the best parts of the Factorio is that original "dieselpunk" technology theme.

The "clean" and "edgy" machines would be worst graphical thing to implement there.
