Re: Belts vs Bots - A response to the latest FFF

I personally use mostly belts, but do use bots occasionally. I reserve them for "quick hacks" when I just can't be arsed to build a belt setup for whatever reason. For this reason I'd love them to stay. Some reasons include: Assemblers for stuff I only need for myself to build, and need ra...

Re: [Rseding91] Inserters take wrong material from belt (for furnace)

I actually ran into this kind of behavior when using a single belt for iron ore input and iron plate output. I didn't care whether the ore was smelted to iron or steel, but I did get annoyed when the furnaces got stuck. Now I could actually make a mixed smelting setup capable of smelting stone and o...

Re: Friday Facts #196 - Back on track

Tutorials taught me HOW to do something, but now WHY should I do it, as I think. Sorry, I can't explain better. For a concrete example, I will use the chain signal tutorial (I don't know if you did that tutorial, but I hope it will help communicate the problem). What I suspect you are saying (for t...

Re: Kovarex w/ feedback loop

I decided to do kovarex using a 40:1 splitter chain to filter the U-235.
Can be expanded to support multiple centrifuges, but wasn't needed for me.

Self-Intersecting train?

I was wondering whether or not it is possible for an automatic train to crash into itself. To answer this question I created the following setup: http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/491276577390950107/506DFDB0BCF7A3F2150CC38DD7818DD595BFE6D6/ I created a little (signaled) loop, made a trai...

Re: Landmines: stealth buffed?

It'd be great if landmines would benefit from the grenade damage upgrade. I can think of one unique use of landmines though: detect biters. Put some mines down and a provider chest with mines next to a roboport covering the mines. When a biter comes and triggers the mine a bot will come and replace ...

Re: Smart Filter Inserter

For pulling stuff off a belt or chest you could use a setup like below. Hook up your chest to a decider that outputs 1 for each item that is in the chest. (top decider). Then hook up that decider to a multiplier that multiplies that 1 or 0 with the maximum value of a 32-bit signed integer (which is ...

Re: Underground: Mining in Caverns, Burrows, and Tunnels

I love the idea, but I think most of it is better suited in mod form. I like the mechanic of having to dig the tunnels yourself with such a boring machine, which will need to be managed. If I look at minecarts by themselves, I would love to have some zooming around on surface rails as a lightweight ...

Cursor hard to see on textbox when creating post

I personally find it really hard to find my cursor in the typing window to the point that I often lose track of it. When the textbox is not selected, the cursor is visible, but if I select the textbox I regularly lose track of the cursor. I was gonna post a screenshot of how well the cursor blends i...

Re: [0.13.x] Make Chain Signal connectable to circuit network

I agree that chain signals should be connectable (to read them out and to force them on red). While I could make a pedestrian crossing mimicking chain signal behiavior, other things are not really possible. For example, I would like to make a priority crossing where one direction receives priority o...

Thick walls as visual for multi-layered walls

This is just a visual change. When you build two walls back-to-back it currently turns into an ugly wall-grid of sorts. It would look better if the gaps in these walls are filled to create one solid, thick wall. So if there are four walls placed in a square, the empty space between them should be fi...

Build pipes like rails

The main reason is to make it intuitive to build pipes adjacent to eachother without them autoconnecting. This is annoying because it forces a lot of empty space between pipes (or a lot of underground pipes because they dont autoconnect). I've seen that topic before, but the discussions were old and...
