Re: Friday Facts #275 - 0.17 Science changes
Two comments on this FFF: 1. Thanks to all the devs at Wube - Merry belated XMas and a happy (early) new year. Your efforts spent improving the game are valued by many, and I presume most people, and I am a very happy customer of yours, and wish you all well, and lot of success with 0.17 and hopeful...

Re: Purpose of Assembly Machine 3βs
The improved speed and the additional module slots are critical for mega factories and performance. In my experience with large bases the majority of comutation time is taken with "entity updates" which is directly proportional to the number of entities you have (inserters, assemblers, etc...

Re: Factorio T-shirts store now open
In case it matters to some, I just received my shirt ordered 11 December yesterday in Canada (Toronto area). That may give some indication as to how long the wait may be - I know I was concerned and others were too.

Re: Friday Facts #221 - 0.16 is out
For compression, I like the idea of "priority Inserters", which "block" the incoming lane and insert the item(s) before unblocking the lane. i.e. it always inserts "before" the next item on the belt, instead of waiting for a big enough gap "after" the next ite...

I realize that it is nit-picky and pedantic, but Factorio has 8 teeth on the cog, but your cake has only 7 Now it looks like a Kubernetes wheel, which is cool, and perhaps a good idea

Re: Factorio Roadmap for 0.15 + 0.16
Every time I see the "Releases" section in the forms in bold orange - with unread content, I think - Maybe it's out! But then I find it's just someone in this roadmap thread.... :( Maybe someone else out there will think this post is a announcement of a new 0.15... sorry. As for the roadma...

Re: Version 0.14.22
I am curious about the technical fix for the UDP checksum problem. Was the fix as simple as adding an incrementing integer to each frame that's ignored on the receiving side?
How do you ensure that you don't lock up a packet on a vulnerable checksum?

Re: Winning with Min Build Count [Challenge]
It's hard to speed-run the min-build, especially without crafting an axe to start with. The "pain" of handcrafting is not so bad once you commit to it, and you can get quite fast/efficient at *not* building in-hand.... but, the really slow start, and the really tedious running backward-and...

Re: Winning with Min Build Count [Challenge]
The real trick people often miss is using your stone furnace to make your first electricity boiler. That saves 1 build.
To do that, though, you need to stockpile enough stuff from that furnace to carry you through to after your science is there to make your own assemblers.

Re: Friday Facts #175 - Programmable Speaker
from my point of view , the sound speaker is useless. I can understand your point of view, but I believe you misunderstand the potential usefulness of the speaker, and the value of "fun" for both the players, and the developers. From my perspective, I congratulate the devs on adding a fea...

Re: Best way to kill a lot of biter nests?
Destroyer capsules, good shields, mechanical legs, and just run through the nests. With anything more than 80 follower-bots I'll take on anything. Run out of range if you need a break. Just don't get cornered by those darned behemoths... Machine gun or combat shotgun to strafe as you run through is ...

Re: [0.13.6] (now 0.14.21) Small Pump & Storage Tanks
In 0.14.21 the behaviour is inconsistent with this bug description, and internally inconsistent as well. I would consider this to be a bug, inconsistency is never "OK". I would expect consistent behaviour with the pumps/tanks. One of the following should be true: You can never walk between...

Re: Friday Facts #168 - Nightvision Nightmare
I would also argue that would be cool to have a second light type to place that is more powerful and covers more range compared to the standard one. Bulding a solid light network FIRST and ALWAYS, nightvision as LAST RESORT for forced night fights. Anyway, only my opinion. That's a great suggestion...

Re: Friday Facts #167 - Reactors Operational
The most important thing in this preview, is that after several experiments, we decided not to render anymore in normal-resolution from Blender. Instead we are going to render just in high-resolution and re-scale the output bitmaps to normal-resolution using a bilinear interpolation. does bilinear ...

Re: Eclipses
One suggestion here would be that pollution creates smog, and smog reduces the energy avalilable to solar panels.
So, the more pollution, the less energy - putting your panels outside your smog cloud makes sense too.

Re: What does UPS mean in Factorio?
In which case there is in fact no solution to the memory latency problem, other than optimized data structures to minimize how much data needs to be handled for each tick. While efficient data structures are useful, a trick which must not be ignored when memory latency is a concern, is localizing d...

What game did I play - multiplayer memory
Yesterday morning I was browsing around in the public multiplayer games (searched for "Password: No" and "Mods: No") just to kill some time before I had to run some errands. I had a couple of "false starts" on games where they were not accessible (0.0.0.0:3284 not acces...
