Re: Fuel Conserving Nuclear Power Setup
I'll have to check but I think the heat pipes max out at 1000 degrees Celsius. If they never reach that temp then you've got enough heat exchangers. How should I set up a belt clock? Should I use a combinator to count the laps? I've thought about that a little. I wondered about this though... the ga...

Re: [MOD 0.16.x|0.15.x|0.14.x]Recycling Machines
Well, I was using your program with 100% recycling, and it occurred to me to exploit it of course, by using a recycling machine in combination with productivity modules. With Bob's mods, you can get these "pure productivity" modules that just add to the productivity with no increase in pow...

Re: Suggestion: Slow Combinators for UPS
Ah but yeah. I figured out what you mean. If I just put limiters on the chests that fill up first I could balance them without splitters or circuits. That's a good idea.

Re: Suggestion: Slow Combinators for UPS
I had been optimizing for filling the train quickly rather than emptying the boxes. In general if there isn't enough ore present to fully fill the train the train station is disabled.
I think with my current mods the cars have 40 stacks of 200 ore each.

Re: Inverse filter setting (Is not filter, take all except...)
This is a pretty elegant solution that could be used for a lot of other things as well. If you wanted to keep a buffer chest that had 100 steel in it but passed on any more than that. Or if you wanted to spread out the resources on your belt so you picked up resources whenever there were more than t...

Re: Suggestion: Slow Combinators for UPS
Two discoveries I have made since my last post:. One, by hitting f4 you can turn on a debug menu that allows you to turn on a time usage meter that tells you exactly how many milliseconds are used each tic by your circuits. Which means I no longer have to guess whether some new circuit contraption i...

Re: Rail Chain Signals and rail tracks.
The tutorial I remember didn't have much in the way of explanation of the way things worked. It was a set of three scenarios set up like puzzles and you had to guess where to put the signals until the trains started running. My experience was that after placing enough signals the trains would finall...

Re: Rail Chain Signals and rail tracks.
That thing you just said ought to be added to the train tutorial. (Or it should have been when chain signals were introduced in the game.).. Used to be if I wanted to run two-way track, I thought the answer was, "don't. It doesn't work. " Now there are tutorials on two-way track cropping u...

Re: Pre-automation automation
I guess the main thing is it is pre electric grid. And also it's made of stuff that can be made in level 1 assemblers. So in that way its pre automation 2 automation.

Re: Suggestion: Slow Combinators for UPS
This could in theory* be ameliorated by creating one and only one "high resolution" ticks timer like this for your base, with a high modulus (flipover value) like 479001600 (12 factorial for max "divisibility"), a small "library" of "medium"-resolution timers...

Re: Suggestion: Slow Combinators for UPS
Some time ago (in 0.13 or 0.15 if I recall correctly), circuit networks were optimized so that only those circuit networks get updated that actually change. Therefore, I believe they are already optimized quite well. Hmmmm, well, maybe it's a question of what I've been doing with them... I've been ...

Suggestion: Slow Combinators for UPS
There are a couple of things that I like using combinators for that do not require 60 updates per second. Come to think of it, there is only one practical situation where I can think that I might need a signal to be updated 60 times per second, and that is stopping a belt when there is something on ...

Re: Pre-automation automation
That's pretty good. Your coal throughput, though, is limited by the inserters, pulling from the miners, and your iron output stock is limited by the size of the stack inside the smelter. I used to use a design that was a bit more burner-inserter intensive. pre-automation-automation.PNG I built large...

Hey, it looks like it worked.
I updated the mods, went back to my saved-game. Tried exactly what I did before, and this time it worked.
Thanks a lot.

Mod Dependencies: Should I start again, again?
Bob's mods are really fascinating. I guess I've been using 'Bob's Electronics" I had wondered, some, at the ability of copper and iron to create an electrical circuit in the vanilla game. Since both are electrical conductors, it seemed a bit unlikely to work. Well, Bob's mods fixes these issues...

Does Nuclear Neighgbor Bonus Have Real-World Basis?
I wondered if the nuclear neighbor bonus of Factorio were inspired by some real world-phenomena, or is it more like an "effect transmission" unique to the Factorio universe.

Blueprint Module Requests Should Go Away When Slots Filled
Version 0.15.34 I had a blueprint with some electric furnaces modded with level 2 productivity modules. Seeing that it was going to be some time before I would have more level 2 productivity modules, I filled it with level 1 modules. However, the request for the level 2 prouctivity modules was still...

Re: It is not possible to set the filter in the main inventory.
Well, when I first middle-clicked in the main inventory and it said "It is not possible to set the filter in the main inventory" I didn't know what it even really meant. But as I've played it, it occurs to me that I don't think I've seen any such message anywhere else in the game. So I thi...
