Re: Why pure water able to kill human ?

Natural water sources contain dissolved minerals, they are not pure water. That's why water has a taste- your body is looking for those dissolved minerals. Pure water has no taste. Drinking pure water will cause the body to give up minerals it already has in order to make the incoming water have the...

Re: I wish I had the money.

You can buy games on steam using Bitcoin if you happen to have some. Its only $20. A few hours doing yardwork for a little old lady is more than sufficient to earn what you need to pay for something like this. And with the holiday season closing in, almost all the major retailers in this area at lea...

Re: Nuclear disasters

Its not going to happen, as has been repeatedly stated. Random failures and explosions will not be a part of the vanilla game, as they provide a trivial nusiance at best and a gamebreaker ending at worst. I'm sure there are mods for the task if you feel like having this sort of thing happen. I would...

Re: Allow players to set the stack limit on nuclear plants

The solution I use for this is to put an item on a belt loop that times the fuel insertion. A belt scanner set to pulse mode will cause an inserter to cycle exactly 1 time, which can have the stack size set to 1 to precisely and predictably insert 1 rod into each reactor. My loop is actuated by stea...

Re: What is everyone's preferred train size

2-8-2-8-2 These monster sized trains stand 22 wagon lengths long, and can move literally thousands of plates per trip. Interestingly enough it is not bidirectional- all 6 engines face the same direction. But I run such mighty beasts on my mainline train, connecting bulk cargo from place to place. Sh...

Re: Long Handed Inserters: Fast, Filter, and Stack

I already view the one type of long handed inserter that is offered as a crutch and build my entire factory without. It simply is not needed in the majority of use cases.

Adding more would just be silly.

Re: Backup power toggle help

I've done both the combinator based hysteresis, and the belt based. The belt based hysteresis performs better for one simple reason: Combinators behave erratically during a brownout. Their output stays enabled in the last-known state, and they will not update their state until they are fully powered...

Instead having multiple assembler. Why we didn't have big assembler machine that produce very large amout quantity of materials ? Speed and power usage will get bigger and stack inserter will required of course. My base getting bigger with usual assembler. Design your assembler areas to be blueprin...

Re: Steam/diesel locomotives

I do make a mod that makes locomotives ONLY accept fluid oil as fuel. You can configure it to take steam as well. The thing is, I haven't found a good way to implement locomotive that uses both water and solid fuel. Here is the link to the mod page https://mods.factorio.com/mods/evildogbot100/Diese...

Re: trade hub and population.

That's the whole point of the game though, you are alone on an alien infested planet and trying to make the things you need to leave again. For multiple characters to interact with, use multiplayer. To trade with other factorio servers, the mod you want is called Clusterio. It allows resources to be...

Re: Logistic Network Needs to be smarter

First improvement I would put on the list is to make bots not cut corners. While shorter, it makes it impossible to connect outposts to your network, because the robots will not go along the tracks of the train that might have turrets and are secure, but they go the direct route which can get them ...

Re: "Boiler run constantly" setting

Really strange idea. Less smart boilers would make basic power plants more complex to set up. You can't "create excess electricity" in the real world; it doesn't work that way. If instead you were constantly creating steam independent of usage, you'd need some radiators or vents to cool/e...

Re: Factorio Server For ARM (Pretty Please

They dropped 32bit support for a reason, this same reason rules out the ARM version. ARM is used in more than just phones and tablets though. It is a powerful enough architecture to be used in small energy-efficient servers for tasks like web hosting and NAS devices. I could see an ARM based server...

At this time we are happy with the current state of steam and water and aren't looking to make any further changes on the topic Thank you all for your feedback, we are definitely listening, but we explained the situation in the FFF, and it doesn't need repeating I've said a few times now that such ...

Re: (0.15.10+) Water and Steam, what's the plan?

Yes, currently boilers are 50% efficient. So 50% of the fuel energy added makes it into the steam. This would be comparable to a real world boiler that has some scale buildup from bad water being fired without the attention to detail necessary for good combustion efficiency. Such a boiler would like...

Re: Boilers instead of steam engines should be 100% efficient.

Boilers in real life are not 100% efficient. Real life boilers have the following efficiencies: "Stoker" fired, commonly seen on locomotives and historic boilers: 50-70% depending on fireman skill, boiler condition, and fuel quality. "Package boiler", modern automatic-controlled ...

Re: Are efficiency modules even worth it?

2 efficiency2 modules reduce things to 20% power consumption- the minimum allowed. This also reduces their pollution by a comparable amount. I run either efficiency or speed in pretty much everything, and actually question how useful productivity modules are. The world files are what 1million x 1 mi...

Re: Electric Heater

agree because you have the electric furnace, so why not an electric boiler as well... => which will result in an infinite loop of power? so *offshore-pumps would need to require energy, which is another point... Currently boilers are only (I believe) 50% efficient, so assuming electric ones would o...
